This happy and energetic Jack Russell/Beagle mix quickly turned out to be more than his new owner bargained for. Although Jack was a wonderful playmate for the older small dog already in the home, the owner said she just didn't have the energy to keep up with Jack and felt he would be happier in a home with a younger, more active owner. She told us Jack loves his crate and would often nap in it on his own. She also said that Jack is house-trained to a doggie door but was not given free run of the house unsupervised. As you would expect from a young dog, Jack also likes to chew on things he shouldn't if he gets bored. Although Jack was not exposed to children in his last home, his previous owner felt that Jack "would love to have some older children at least 9 or 10 years old to play with." A fenced yard is also high on Jack's Wish List. Both Jack Russells and Beagles have a penchant for taking off when not on leash in an unconfined space so a fenced yard would keep Jack safe during his runs in the yard. Jack is a very intelligent little dog and is quick to sit on command. We even got him to do the 'down' position with a little coaxing and a few pieces of kibble. Because of his athleticism, we think Jack would be a great candidate for agility, fly ball, or frisbee. What he would not be good at is staying home alone all day - he is far too energetic and active for a sedentary lifestyle. If, however, you are looking for a smart, compact, energetic and athletic little dog, make sure you stop by the shelter and ask to meet Jack. Approximate Date of Birth: 8/01/17.
