As a volunteer, I spent some time with him recently. When I opened his kennel door, he waited a second as if to check to make sure I was safe, and then came willingly. For me he walked OK on a leash but I think there may be a chance that he’s never walked on one before and yet another volunteer said he was a pleasure to walk on leash. Once in the play yard, I found him to be trusting, friendly and alert. I wouldn’t describe him as a lap dog but he definitely seeks attention and affection and gives it in return. He was active and excited in the play yard and can definitely jump onto a sofa unaided in the event you prefer not to lift him. He was curious to explore his surroundings and appreciated the opportunity to be outdoors.
I think Issac is a great dog that would make a good addition to a family with an active lifestyle. He just needs someone to be consistent in letting him know what they expect of him. If he’s been cooped up for a while he will want to play and expresses that by jumping up to you. If you are seated on the ground and kiss to him, he loves to come over for attention but you need to be ready for him because in his excitement he tends to come right into you with innocent exuberance. I don’t think he has a mean bone in his body. In some ways he plays very much like a puppy and just needs to be taught what is expected of him now that he’s grown. When he would come rushing up to me I would tell him to sit, followed by a quick “good boy” and stroking and I found he would listen. So even though the good citizen who bright Isaac to us said he did well with a 5 year old child, I would suggest children 8 years and older.
I think all Issac wants is to feel safe and loved and to have an opportunity to play and give and receive affection. He has a beautiful naive happiness about him and loves attention. All he needs is a little guidance and he’ll give lots of love in return. He’s so deserving.
