Iris’s FAQs

What is Tall Tails Rescue’s adoption process?

Please read our adoption policies carefully. For any questions regarding these policies or our adoption process, please email talltailstransport@yahoo.com. Our rescue dogs come from rural areas of Texas and other surrounding states with high animal overpopulation rates. Therefore, most of our dogs are located at our headquarters in Fort Worth while they wait to find their furever home, unless otherwise specified in the description. Once a pup has been pre-adopted (see details below), we will bring them to their new family on the next monthly transport to either our east and west coast adoption locations (the Pacific North West and Maryland). *PRE-ADOPTION* We always have our dog’s best interest in mind so we do not put them on transport to the PNW or Maryland unless they are pre-adopted or will be attending one of our adoption events. Pre-adopted means that an adoption has been finalized (adoption application has been submitted and approved and adoption fee paid). We understand that adopting a dog is a huge decision and that you want to be sure it is a good fit before making such a big commitment, which is why we offer a 30-day fully-refundable return policy. Please see below for more information on our trial period / return policy and for more information about our adoption fee. *30-DAY RETURN / REFUND POLICY* Due to our deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our dogs, we offer a 30-day refund policy to ensure that each adoption is the right fit for both the dog and your family. If for any reason you can’t keep him/her permanently, we will work with you to coordinate returning the dog during our next transport to your area. If you are unable to care for him/her until we return to your area, we will do everything we can to find a safe, local foster home to place him/her. However, any and all expenses resulting from temporarily relocating the dog before the return (e.g., emergency boarding costs) will be deducted from your refunded adoption fee. Please note that if you are unable to keep the dog at ANY point over his/her life, you may not rehome him/her without contacting our rescue for approval. We have a lifetime commitment to our pups and will always accept returns regardless of when he/she was adopted. *ADOPTION FEE* Our adoption fee covers the costs of all age-appropriate medical procedures (e.g., spay/neuter, vaccinations, Heartworm test, etc.), microchipping, health certificate, and transport expenses. NOTE: Adoption fees are determined by location due to the difference in transport expenses and state requirements (each state has different requirements for transporting animals into that state). Our available dogs may have multiple postings for different locations, so please make sure you search for our postings in your area. *PROOF OF RESIDENCY / HOUSEHOLD RESTRICTIONS* Adoption applicants are required to submit proof of residency prior to approval for adoption. If you own your home, you will be required to also submit a copy of your HOA policy if you have any pet restrictions. If you rent your home or are not the primary homeowner of your household (i.e., if you live in a home owned by your friends or family), you will be required to submit a copy of your lease or a signed letter from your landlord/property management company that describes any pet restrictions for your home (i.e., breed, weight, etc.). It is the responsibility of the adopter to ensure any dog adopted through our rescue is not prohibited by residency restrictions PRIOR to finalizing the adoption. Otherwise, if you are not able to keep the dog for this reason, the dog must be returned to us and you will forfeit your adoption fee. *APPLICATION PROCESS* Adoption applications are reviewed for approval in the order they are received. If your application is approved, we will contact you to discuss the process moving forward. If your application is not approved, or was the not the first approved app received, we will do our best to notify you of your application status. We appreciate your patience and understanding that not every app may receive a notification as we have a very small staff and a group of volunteers who do their best to keep up with the daily flux of apps and emails. If you have any questions about the status of your app, please contact us. Online Adoption Application: https://form.jotform.com/PNWdogs/ttrt-pnw-ap
