Meet Ireland
Meet Ireland! Ireland is a 4 month old chihuahua mix puppy who weighs 4 lbs. She will be about 6-8 lbs full grown. Ireland is a very shy girl and life in general is a bit scary for her. Her foster parents are working hard to socialize her and help teach her the world isn’t as scary as she thinks it is. Right now, Ireland is a puppy who is going to take a minute to warm up to you. She may run and hide from you for a bit, but she will eventually warm up if you don’t force yourself on her. Once you earn her trust, she’s a very loving and affectionate girl who loves showering you with kisses. We’ve found that Ireland certainly does better and is more confident in a home with at least one other dog that she can kind of take cues from. Due to her small size, she would do best in a home with dogs no bigger than 30 lbs, those considerations can be made for the right home. Because of her shy and insecure nature, Ireland would do best in a home with no kids or kids 12 and older. Ireland is working on potty training, but does have a ways to go. She does not like the crate and hates to be left alone, but her foster parents are working on that. We ask that her adopters continue crate training until she’s older and more confident. She may whine the first few nights, but part of having a puppy is training them and not letting them train you. We also ask that her adopters continue socializing her and exposing her to things so she can keep gaining more and more confidence. If Ireland had it her way, she would be carried 24/7 and her feet would never touch the ground. It is very important that her new adopters do not do this. It is vital to a puppy’s growth and development that they learn how to dog. If something is scary, picking them up just encourages that fear. That’s how little dogs earn their mean label. Yes, they’re little. But they’re still dogs!! Ireland is able to settle down when she realizes her foster parents aren’t going to give in. Ireland is UTD on vaccines and is due for one more booster and then she will be done with her puppy shots. She will also need to be spayed once she’s 6 months old.
