Iowa is a very nice, friendly boy. His right front leg was badly broken and as a result his wrist joint was fused, making it unbendable. Iowa runs with his leg held slightly up, but can walk on it just fine and puts it down while standing. It does not slow him down. He is a happy, playful boy - and such a love!
OCTOBER UPDATE: Iowa has been with us for four months. He was adopted - and returned - twice.
1. He does not like to be crated.
2. He sometimes startles when new people enter the house and jumps up and barks loudly.
Iowa has wonderful house manners and is well behaved so he really does not need to be crated. He sleeps amid the other dogs and is not destructive in any way. He gets along fine with other dogs of all sizes. He can jump up three steps but a flight of stairs would be a challenge.
As for his occasional startle barking, a verbal reprimand and assurance that it's "OK" calms him down. He has been around children in his foster home, greets the mailman each day, and has become accustomed to the sweeper, ceiling fans and and elderly person shuffling with a walker. Iowa loves to be brushed and petted and is an over-all calm, content dog.
He would do best in a home with at least one other greyhound to take cues from and with folks who are dog-savvy. A fenced yard would be a plus. He has been fostered by both Kay and Peg with zero problems. Please call and talk to us if you are seriously interested in giving Iowa his forever-forever home.
