Meet Idgie

Meet Idgie Furgoode. She’s a snuggly girl who loves to lay her head on your chest and would sleep all day if you let her. When you get home, expect her “strong opinions” to come out in the form of indignant snorts and grumblings. After all, if she had it her way, you’d sidle up to her as she sits upright on the couch and does her best impression of a sneaky Neighborhood Watchman. She scrunches up her expressive face as she quietly takes it all in.

As much as she likes hunkering down at home, she’s also the type to get excited when it’s time to play or the leash makes an appearance. She’s comfortable out in the world, but keep a lookout for those squirrels and birds (because she does). If you like a long car ride, Idgie’s right there with you, intently observing the world as it whizzes by.

When it comes to people, Idgie has rarely met a person she didn’t immediately like. Dogs, on the other hand, have to prove themselves to her: She’s more selective in that regard. Idgie enjoys other dogs’ company, but she’s quick to let them know that she won't be bossed around. Idgie would do well in a home with a dog or dogs (big or small) who respect boundaries. She'd also be fine as your one and only.

Idgie entered the shelter system as a stray and, before we pulled her into the rescue, spent more than six months waiting for her chance to prove that she’d be a wonderful pet. She has done that and more. Idgie is crate-trained, house-trained, and knows her basic commands, such as sit, shake, and down. Even though she LOVES food, she will still show restraint at mealtimes by sitting and waiting for an “okay.” She’s an all-around good girl, even if she occasionally eats too fast and then confuses a burp in your face as a “thank you.” Maybe, in her culture, that’s a perfectly normal expression of gratitude. Who’s to say.
