Meet Huck & Finn
We occasionally find ourselves with a non-Weimaraner in our rescue. That happened last month when we just couldn't say no to this dynamic duo from a shelter we were working with to obtain a Weim from requested help rehoming with this pair.
COURTESY POST.....Please share.
Helloooo! We are Huck and Finn!
Boy, do we have a story to tell you! Let's get the boring details out of the way first....
We are 10 month old Bluetick brothers. Blues Brothers...haha get it? We are neutered, fully vaccinated, Heartworm tested negative and on preventatives.
Now for the scoop on us....
The first 8 months of our lives were really horrible. We were neglected, underfed and full of nasty fleas.
One day some really nice people from Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue came and got us. We've always had each other, so we do know what brotherly love is, but human love is really awesome too, and we are so glad to have that in our lives.
We have been exposed to some great things in the last 2 months. We've met lots of other dogs at doggie day care and we get along with all of them (apparently we are a favourite). We think kids of all ages are really awesome. Especially if they have sticky fingers ;)
Our foster Mom uses words that we don't understand but she says they mean good things. "Affectionate, loyal, sweet, and goofy puppies" are some of the thing's we've overheard her say.
Now, we need you to know that we are really smart. In just two months we have learned come, sit, lay, off, leave it and quiet. If you have treats we are going to listen 100% (duh...why wouldn't we?). Without treats, your chances are 50/50. Just sayin...food is king!
As for leash training, well we are still puppies. We walk with our noses to the ground which likely isn't going to change. We are happy to have you show us how to walk nicely on a leash and still enjoy all of the worlds amazing smells.
We have never met a cat before but you betcha we're gonna to chase it if it runs. We are very gentle guys but our size may scare a "scaredy cat".
We are great self entertainers. Games of chase followed by a puppy version of mixed martial arts, and a nice selection of dog toys keeps us content and happy.
Oh...BTW...we both have the same "crook" in our tails.
Apparently we got that from old Uncle Jeb ;)
We really want you to know how much we love each other. We are what they call "bonded". We sleep wrapped around each other and never want to be far apart. We are truly unhappy when we are separated. We hate to think about it because it makes us sad, but our foster Mom has talked to us and said that we may not get lucky enough to find someone who can take us both. We're keeping our paws crossed.
Our foster Mom asked us to add some info she says is important (her words, not ours)...
Huck and Finn will need a secured yard with a fence at least 6 feet high. They will be best suited for family with a rural or larger suburban property. As most hounds do, they like to sing from time to time and also can be vocal when small wildlife comes into view. Squirrels, rabbits, ect.
These two boys will melt anyone's heart. They love to smile and hug people. Neither has a mean bone in their body.
They will benefit greatly being in the care of someone with hound experience, who can provide them with the exercise and stimulation they need. Hounds are not off-leash dogs and must be kept safely contained at all times.
If you think you can give these two brothers the home they deserve, please first connect with the Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue in MI, using the following contact options.
There will be an application process, and for an approved adopter assistance with transportation may be able to be provided based on location. Applications in the US and Ontario, Canada are welcome.
