Love for Life Program:
The dog you are interested in is eligible for our Love for Life program (L4L). This program is to find forever foster homes for dogs that may not otherwise find a forever home. Many are more difficult for adoption due to medical or behavioral conditions. You can read more about our Love for Life program on our website at http://www.savingpawsrescueaz.com/love-for-life-program/.

Meet Howie
Young, male German Shepherd
Medical Condition: EPI (very manageable)

This fun-loving boy looks amazing compared to when he first arrived at SPR. He came in weighing just 45 pounds with his ribs showing and running a fever. After several courses of treatment and a lot of time, love and experimenting with finding the right food, Howie is on his way to a normal weight.

It turns out that Howie has EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) meaning his pancreas has failed to produce digestive enzymes and he can’t properly absorb nutrients. This led to his extreme weight loss and illness. However, the good news is the EPI is easily managed by adding a simple pancreatic enzyme supplement to his food. EPI dogs go on to live healthy and full lives. And, our Howie isn’t missing a beat getting started on this.

This big goofball is enjoying play time with his foster sister, one of a previous SPR litter of puppies, and is thriving! He’s put on weight, is a total love bug, enjoys his food and is generally a different dog than when he first arrived.
Howie does great with other dogs, but not so much with cats. So, he will need to go to a cat-free home. He could also use some training to brush up on his doggie manners. He spent so long being sick that he’s just now getting to expend that puppy energy, so a home with older children may be best.

If you can give Howie an indoor forever home, please fill out our online application on our website at http://www.savingpawsrescueaz.com/adoption-form/

We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. We are an all-volunteer organization. It may take a couple of days to process an application and complete reference checks.
