If you choose not to answer all of the questions in the application, your application won’t be considered. We will review your application & email you within 2-3 weeks if you made our short list of applicants for her.

*Please check your emails regularly & also your junk/spam folder. If we email you that you made our short list of applicants for her, we expect a response within 24 hours.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.

*We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt Honey before we will schedule a meet & greet with her. We do not transport our dogs. We expect approved adopters to visit her in her foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt her. Our adoption process involves vet & personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract & an adoption fee.

*AGE: 2 years (born November 2023)

*WEIGHT: 37 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is recommended. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Adorable honey-colored curly low-shedding coat that will need regular brushing and grooming. Most Doodles have high maintenance coats that are timely and costly to maintain so please consider this before adopting a Doodle. Adopter should be prepared to brush her coat often or it will mat. Also, be prepared to have her groomed regularly (every 6-8 weeks) with an estimated cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy. She requires daily exercise. She does jump a little when she’s excited/you’re just returning home. She loves going for walks and gets excited to see her leash. She currently takes 4 (approximately 15 min) walks a day and 5-6 mile hikes on the weekend, when possible. When she’s ready to rest she slides into a sploot and just lays wherever that might be. She does settle and will put herself to bed/snuggle in the evening.

*DOGS: She previously lived with another small dog with no issues for 2 years. She is excited to meet another dog friend on a walk, and can still be a bit skittish and shy before starting to play. Continued socialization will help. She does not need another dog in the house, and we think she would do fine on her own. Like the majority of dogs, she will need some transition time to acclimate to her new home and any dogs in the home.

*CATS: Not a good fit with cats. She met an outdoor cat in the neighborhood and tried to chase it.

*KIDS: Yes! Previous owners did not state any issues with young children in the home. Foster home has many small children ages 2-10 in the community that Honey loves to play with and she does great. She loves getting pets and snuggles.

*CAR: She does well in the car; no issues. She loves it as it usually means she is going to the park which is her favorite thing in the world!

*CRATE: She is well crated trained. She is currently kept in a large gated area when no one is home. She will sometimes put herself to bed in the crate or take her Kong or dentast ick in her crate. She currently sleeps at the foot of the bed or at the top of the stairs uncrated on her blanket. The top of the stairs is where she spends most of her chillout time as she can perform neighborhood watch.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes. 100% No accidents.

*LEASH: She walks with a harness. She pulls a bit and can be distracted by animals, cars and people, but she loves taking walks.

*AT THE VET: She was super sweet at the vet; gave them bear hugs and laid on the floor for belly rubs.

*WITH GROOMING: She was a little nervous at the groomer and did great!

Honey is a gorgeous 2 year old female Goldendoodle who weighs 37 lbs. She was surrendered by her family who loved her very much. They had some serious health issues and weren't able to exercise Honey and wanted her to be with a family who was able to walk her.

Honey is a very sweet girl. She loves belly rubs and butt scratches and will put her head and paw in your lap or on the side of the bed in the morning to remind you that she would love some attention. Her tail is in constant wagging motion when she’s greeting you. She is a little timid and could use some confidence boosting. She can be startled and skittish if she hears an unusual sound outside. This behavior has diminished with lots of walks in just 1 week. She will bark if she can see out the window at people/activity but when told to move away from the window she is very amenable and quickly quiets down. Honey has been placed on a poultry-free diet to help with ear allergies.

Honey will need some transition time when she moves to her forever home. Her world was pretty small prior to coming in to IDOG and everything is new to her. She went to a foster home where there were 2 large Doodles and she was overwhelmed and needed time to acclimate. She moved to a different foster home without other animals and she adapted to her foster home fairly quickly and has become very comfortable. If she goes to a home with other dogs, she will need decompression time and transition time and slow introductions to the resident dogs.

She does not show much interest in balls or toys. Honey is playful and adorable and loves to jump and run around the yard with her foster mom. She is a fantastic gardener and walking companion, and when inside she is extremely docile and attentive. She likes to go in the backyard and run around and chase birds.

Adjectives that describe Honey:
*Friendly
*Cuddly
*Submissive
*Sweet
*Velcro
*Excitable
*Sweet
*Loving

Activities she enjoys:
-Walks
-Hiking – she loves to go hiking where she can meet a lot of people and smell everything. She is working on saying hi to people by sitting; right now she likes to give them bear hugs which can be too much sometimes.
-Snuggles
-Running
-Playing with other dogs when introduced slowly

A few “needs work” items for Honey
*alert barking – she barks at most loud noises, cars driving by, people/dogs on walks
*continued reinforcement/rewards on basic commands
*jumping to say hi and may put her paws on the counter (she hasn’t eaten any food off the counter yet)

The ideal type of home for Honey
-fenced yard where she is able to run and play
-owner who is able to walk with Honey and ensure her exercise needs are met. She’s more medium than high energy and loves her walks and playtime
-owners who are home a lot. Honey is a people dog and just wants the comfort of knowing her person is nearby. She’ll whine/cry (by the door exited or closed) a little bit when a person leaves but recovers quickly.

We think she’d benefit from some additional training to build her confidence and hone some of the commands she has been taught. She gets very excited in the morning and when she sees her leash. She loves when taken to the backyard and will jump up for a big bear hug. She puts her paws on various items like the counter or your knee or shoulder to see what is going on or get attention. She’s food motivated and takes treats gently. She does give wonderful hugs in the morning and when you come home.

Honey is spayed, microchipped, current on core vaccines and house and crate trained. Her heartworm test was negative. Honey had ear infections when she came in to rescue; they are almost cleared up and she needs to stay on a regular ear cleaning schedule and we recommend a no-poultry diet. Her vet has advised teeth brushing or a daily dentastick.

ADOPTION FEE: $600

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are very high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR HONEY-VIRGINIA, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
