HERSCHEL is a lovable hunk!

He’s house trained and walks great on a leash! He’s a pretty low energy dog, but enjoys an evening walk and a roll in the grass. He loves snoozing, snuggles, and kisses!

Herschel is dog selective. He is also sometimes protective over his resources (food/toys). We are recommending Herschel as an only dog, and honestly, he would love to be the solo beneficiary of all the snuggles and affection. He ADORES his humans! Herschel is great with all people, including children! Herschel will make a great pet for anyone looking to love on this hunk!

When Herschel was rescued, we noticed that he had stiffness in his left hind leg/hip. We wanted to make sure that there wasn't an underlying condition that was creating pain, and took him in for an evaluation. X-rays disclosed a previous injury that was not properly addressed resulting in chronic osteoarthritis. In order for Herschel to live a pain-free life, the recommendation was for a surgical procedure known as Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) to provide permanent relief. Herschel is now in post-surgical recovering and doing well. His Foster Mom is providing daily physical therapy exercises to make sure the hip remains flexible and at optimum functionality. Herschel also had laser therapy to expedite the healing. If you adopt HERSCHEL before completion of his 12-weeks of in home physical therapy, we will show you how to perform these easy exercises which will also help in your bonding process with your new companion.

Herschel, although a young guy, was in need of a dental cleaning (should be done regularly for all adult dogs to maintain health), and he received that service too! All in all, he is feeling so much better now! Just look at his happy photos.

We believe HERSCHEL to be an American Staffordshire mix. His estimated DOB is 04/08/2016, and he weighs 745.6 pounds as of 7/16/20.

For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.youluckydogrescue.org and read our Adoption FAQ's and Before You Adopt documents. You can complete an online adoption application from our website. You can also email info@youluckydogrescue.org for additional details that are not included in this biography.

PRIVATE MEET & GREETS: Submitting an adoption application is required before a private meet & greet will be scheduled. We will complete a pre-screening first to make sure that the dog you are interested in is a good fit for you. That way, we don't unnecessarily waste your time or the foster's time.

Our adoption fee is $300 and includes all age appropriate vaccines, spay or neuter and microchipping. All of our rescue dogs are heart worm tested annually beginning at 9 months of age, and they are kept on monthly heart worm and flea preventatives.

The breed and age included in this listing is based upon the opinion of a vet that has examined the dog. We cannot confirm the age of the dog unless the dog was born in the care of the rescue.

We are located in the metro Atlanta area. We currently do not allow out of state adoptions as a home check is required as part of the adoption process.
