This hunky dude is Pit mix who we estimate to be 3-4 years old and a hefty 65lbs. Hero has a beautiful chocolate coat and piecing eyes the color of a warm, yellow sunset.

He was found running down Washington Blvd with a long thin rope attached to his neck. A kind person proceeded to pick him up, drop him off, and we took him into the shelter. Since his arrival he has been very sweet and friendly towards staff and volunteers. But is still confused as to why he's here at Del Norte Animal Control and would love a fresh start in a new home!

I am a pretty hefty and strong fella but walk well on leash after burning off and releasing some energy. I know how to "sit" when asked, although it appears I have had little in the training or socialization dept. But I promise I am such a smart boy and so eager to continue learning and growing with the help of your gentle guidance.

He has quite the goofy personality and will flop around like a fish out of water when trying to get your affection. He enjoys playing fetch, chewing on Kong toys and chilling out on the couch after a walk in the donation room. He can struggle with the boredom of kennel life and would love a family that can keep him physically and mentally active.

Hero can be dog selective. If he were to live with another dog, it should be a calm dog similar in size/age and they would need to be properly introduced.


I'm just a dog who enjoys being around my people and I'm happiest when spending time with some of favorite volunteers. My play style is a bit more rough and tumble, so a home with older children please (12+) Due to my strength and enthusiasm I'm looking for an experienced dog owner who has leadership skills and is willing to make a commitment to me and my training.

Born Again Pit Bull Rescue (BAPBR) regularly works with the wonderful volunteers at the Del Norte County Animal Control Shelter located out in rural Crescent City, CA (a small coastal town on the OR/CA border). They have a very small shelter with small indoor 3x6 kennel runs, low foot traffic, odd adoption viewing hours and it rains a lot which means the dogs can't always come outside to play--so we want YOU to see some of their really great dogs that they have up for adoption. It's only a short 5-hour drive from Portland to adopt your new family member!

Del Norte County Animal Control is located in Crescent City, CA. They are open Monday thru Friday from 8am to 5pm. They are closed Saturday and Sunday.
