Hercules: Adopted!!! German Shepherd Dog Mix Kansas City, KS

4/14/2016: Hercules is a handsome black and tan Shepherd mix. He's very friendly and a people pleaser. He knows several obedience commands. Our staff has been working with him on sit, down, shake, stay and heeling nicely. He's a very smart guy and very food motivated, which makes him a quick and eager learner! He's also affectionate and a kisser. BE SURE TO WATCH HIS VIDEO!

Hercules is 6 years old and weighs 82 lbs. He had been abandoned in a rental house after his family moved away. He will need to be the only pet in the home -- he doesn't want to share the love and attention of his new person with other pets! We do walk him in pack walks with other dogs, however, and he can walk near the other dogs without reacting to them.

Hercules isn't comfortable with being brushed, or touched on his haunches. We've been working with him-- it's due to his lack of proper socialization and care in his previous homes. He's doing much better. He'll need a home without children, however. He would be a great dog for someone who's had some dog experience and appreciates a smart and loyal dog who just needs some work.

Hercules has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He tested positive for heartworms when he first arrived, but he completed treatment ages ago and is now clear. He's healthy and ready for his new home! Hercules is a beautiful dog, and he'll be a devoted and loving companion. He’s been with us for a long time and we’d love to find him a real home.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
