Meet Helen

So...

Helen is really what rescue is all about.

She was found in the middle of the street in Dallas. How she got there is a huge mystery because Helen is blind. A Good Samaritan literally rescued her off of the street, did a Nextdoor search and found that she was from the neighborhood and had "somehow" gotten out. But her family didn’t want her back, which tells me she did not manage to get out. Rather she was put out. Yes, you heard me right, a blind dog was essentially thrown out with the trash.

Now a Ninja, Helen is ready for a do-over for her golden years.

After spending some time with her we can’t imagine why she wouldn’t have been loved! Yes, she’s blind, but she is the sweetest little thing that doesn’t seem to know she has a disability. Her foster reports that she loves to be held and thinks TV time is the best. Helen is quiet when crated and barks at potty time. Zero accidents in the crate or the house and she figured out her potty area really fast and only needs a few minutes to do her business. After a very small adjustment period, Helen will learn to follow the sound of your voice.

Helen loves car rides and does very well on leash. She has a fair amount of energy too so don’t think she just sits around all day. Nope! She’s very engaging and loves to be included.

We think Helen may be a poodle/shih tzu mix as she is pretty petite, only about 10 pounds. She's thought to be 10 years old because her teeth were such a mess but even if that is the case, she has a lot of good years left to share. Active or young dogs scare her, so we think she would prefer being the only dog in the household. She may do fine with cats or other small pets so long as they were lower energy and calm and didn't rush up to her too quickly.

We had her spayed, got all her vaccinations, microchipped her and got her a dental and she’s feeling so much better now. She's got a new lease on life!

Helen's adoption fee is just $100 so if you’d like to meet her please fill out an adoption application on our website.

If a lifelong commitment is not your thing, consider fostering dear Helen until her forever home is found.
