Meet Hazel

ABOUT HAZEL
Hazel is a 5 year old terrier mix with quite the back story! In late July, we received a call from Aston Township Police Department, seeking rescue for two stray pups, found wandering in the woods behind a local bank. Hazel was found with another dog, Chloe. They were out and about for around a week before they finally approached people, allowing help from law enforcement. They went straight Brandywine Veterinary Hospital in Chadds Ford, PA to be checked out and see if anyone had reported these babies missing. Unfortunately, they were not chipped and no missing reports had been filed for them. Our friends at Brandywine Vet. examined both dogs. They began treatment for intestinal parasites and urinary tract infections. Unfortunately, no rescues in their immediate area were able to take both dogs, so HAP stepped up to save them!

Our animal care team headed up to Brandywine Vet. the same day to give Chloe and Hazel a chance at finding their forever homes. Understandably, both girls were a little nervous but seemed excited to start their adoption journey! We initially thought they would be a bonded, sister pair, but it turns out they are different ages and behave more like friends than family. After they settled in at HAP, we separated them to see if they were different alone and both pups seemed to enjoy their own space apart.

Hazel has been a total mushball girl who loves to play with both people and dogs! Hazel spent some time in foster, here's what they had to say about her:

"It took her a few hours to settle in the first night, in which she seemed pretty nervous. She was panting and pacing but I just sat with her and she eventually laid down. Since then she has been relaxing and she likes laying in her crate. She gets in there by herself and brings all the toys in there with her. She is very food-motivated for tricks. She is mostly good on a leash but likes to cut in front of you and stop walking when she wants attention. She likes walking very close to you and wants to stay right by your side the whole time. She loves car rides. I would say Hazel's ideal home is with a family that can give her lots of attention and cuddles. She is very strong and not too sure of her size. A house with a dog closer to her size would be best, my dog is small and nervous with her size. She was exposed to kids but did not choose to go up to them. She met some of my friends and seemed to prefer females. She wasn't bad with the males, she just chose to avoid them. She also met two people at the pet store."

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
