Harriet Coonhound Mix Palatine, IL

Meet Harriet, quite possibly the nicest dog you’ll ever meet. She’s a 7-year-old Hound mix who weighs 62 pounds. This sweet lady has been through a lot while living life as a stray in Alabama, including a soccer-ball-sized hernia from which she is now fully healed. She’s ready to live the good life and is looking for just the right home in which to do it.
 
Harriet slept A LOT when she first arrived, like 90% of the time. Now that she's more decompressed, she's starting to explore more. She’s following her people around, snuggling, or looking for ways to score herself a treat. A food-motivated girl, Harriet will bark to let you know when the treats have run out or when she wants something. She can get quite loud at times, so would be better placed in a single family home than in one with shared walls. But when she gets a little loud, her foster mom just reminds her that she’s a southern lady, and she’s embarrassing herself and that tends to do the trick! She's strong on leash and will need a powerful handler.
 
A very well behaved lady, Harriet is completely housebroken and will settle fairly quickly into her crate, where she goes when her foster mom is away from the house and also at night. That said, Harriet loves herself a good couch and has no qualms about sneaking her way onto the furniture if she gets the chance. She also has no concept of personal space, like zero. Sit down on the couch and you’ll quickly find her body overlapping yours. Walk into the kitchen for a snack, she’s right on your heels. She just wants to remind you she loves you and wants to be near you.
