Meet Harley

Hello my name is Harley! I am a super smart, loving, cuddly, 72-pound Weimaraner looking for my forever home. I was born in May of 2019. I am great with all dogs and people. In my original home I lived with two young boys. My family surrendered me to LWR because they could not keep me anymore. They did not know anything about Weims when they purchased me from a breeder. They tried to return me the first year, but the breeder would not take me back. For the first year, I did not receive the exercise or training I needed. I am up-to-date on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, and spayed. I have seen cats at the vet’s office, and they did not bother me. However, I was on a leash and did not get close to them so I really cannot say how I am with them. I am housebroken. I will bark at the door, or sit there, or pace when I must go out. I need to stay in my crate when my Foster Mom is out, and I hear her say I am doing very well. As soon as I hear the pantry door where the milk bones are kept, I go right in my crate and wait for my treat. Now, I will go into my crate on my own when I am relaxed and want to nap. It took me a few weeks to relax and figure out the new house routine. This will probably also be the case when I am adopted and go to my forever home, so please keep this in mind. The first two days I would hardly eat, and just wanted to curl up in a corner of the room my Foster Mom was in. I also did not like to go outside, and only wanted to charge back to the door to get back in the house. I felt safer in the house. After two weeks, I quit doing this. Now I love to be outside! If we go for a ride in the car, I only want to be on the floor board of the front passenger seat. My Foster Mom does not allow this with any other dogs, but I had too many other issues to deal with, so this was a safety compromise. At the end of my third week in foster care, I started sitting up and looking out the window when I am on the driveway, coming and going. I also pop up on the dog park driveway. Don’t you think I am very smart that I know when we have arrived? I go in and out of the car more easily now. I am a little head shy. Mom does not think I was hit, but most definitely my collar was grabbed. Therefore, I duck my head. Mom only touches me with her hand palm up with no grabbing. I go to her easily, so she does not have to grab. Every day I am learning more new stuff. I love to go to the dog park and run. My foster brother does not like to romp with me, so I would love another dog to play with. I am a little barking at first with a new dog or person because I am so excited, but I am friendly with everyone. I am still very much a puppy! I will counter surf for just about anything. I love to chew paper, napkins, and cardboard. But really, I will take anything I can get, cause I am just a big puppy. Mostly I want to be in the room my Foster Mom is in, so I follow her everywhere. I really like my Weim foster brother too. I have learned to walk on a leash with a special collar. I am incredibly good on the gentle leader. I sleep in a crate in the bedroom at night and go for a short walk in the morning and the park in the afternoon. With the right exercise, I am much calmer in the house. I will need a family that has a lot of Weim experience and will not let me control the house. This family will need to be confident and in command and they will get a super sweet girl for life. In the beginning, I will try to be the boss. My Foster Mom says they will have to understand what they are getting: A head strong, young Weimaraner! I knew barking in my original home got me attention, so I need a family that will be willing to keep me on track. I have been learning some new games that help me focus my energy, and my Foster Mom would love to share those with you. I have been responding very well to positive reinforcement training. If you stick with me, I will be so happy to love you forever. For me, it is simple. Exercise, discipline, and affection. I just need someone who understands my drive and energy. I will be a handful and a half at first, until I learn I can trust you. I am being fostered in the Greenfield, Ohio area. My Foster Mom would love to tell you more about how wonderful I am. Please complete an adoption application so we can see if you may match with me and be my forever home!
