Hank's Story

Hi, I’m Hank! <br/>I’m about 4–5 years old and weigh 55 lbs. I’m a mellow, sweet guy who just wants a calm home and people to love. I’m house trained, and while I am crate trained, I don’t actually need one — I’m well-behaved and happy to just relax when you’re not around. I’d do best as the only dog in the home, but that’s okay because I’ve got plenty of love to give all on my own. I adore adults, I’m good with kids 12 and up, and I’d thrive in a quieter home where I can really settle in. One of my favorite things is to frolic around in the yard — it’s my happy place! I’m also very smart and food motivated, so I learn quickly (especially if you’ve got treats in your pocket. At the end of the day, I’m a total snuggle bug who just wants to curl up with my people. If you’ve been looking for a loyal best friend to share both quiet moments and playful yard time, I might just be your guy. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info and pics on me!

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
