They say good things come to those who wait. Will you be Buddy’s good thing??

Buddy is ready to love you unconditionally. And he’s not looking for much in return. In fact, Buddy finds great satisfaction with the simple things in life like a tennis ball to chase, a couch to chill out on, a blanket to snuggle in, people to nuzzle with, and a bone to chew on. His eyes shine with pride when he is praised for his accomplishments. His willing nature has touched everyone who knows him.

Buddy is a 40-pound one-year-old cattle dog mix, and true to the cattle dog in him, he likes to be active and have a purpose, enjoying playtime in the back yard or staying busy entertaining himself with toys inside the house. He also LOVES a good game of tug! Buddy loves other dogs and would love a canine buddy to romp and play with. Regardless of how active Buddy can be, he has an excellent “off switch” and is happy to settle in for a cozy evening of movies.

A well-trained boy, Buddy is house-trained and knows some basic cues like “sit”, “down”, and “crate”. He has decent leash manners and he is superbly crate trained. Cattle dogs are extremely smart pups, and Buddy is no exception. He is very food motivated and easy to train and it would be fun for Buddy and his adopter(s) to try out dog sports like frisbee or agility with him.

Buddy came to us from a shelter in West Virginia. Buddy's past life left him with an admirable appreciation for the simple comforts in life: plentiful meals; a warm place to sleep; his treasured felt toys, and especially a kind voice telling him he's a good dog. Buddy takes none of these newfound joys for granted.

Buddy has made huge strides in coming to accept the loud, menacing metal monsters (aka passing cars) that inhabit his new world [as shown in the video(s)], but neighborhood walks are still an exhausting situation. After conferring with experienced behavioralists, we were able to come up with a simple solution for managing this situation: Buddy gets his exercise in the backyard, where he can run, play, and romp without fear. He does well crated in a car for trips to the vet or other places he needs to go.

Although he is very fond of his fosters, he seems to know he hasn't found his forever home. What would Buddy’s forever home and people look like? Someone who wants a pup that will play hard and cuddle hard. Someone who understands that going for neighborhood walks is not a necessary task for a dog. Someone who recognizes his willingness to learn, to trust and to bond. Someone who would enjoy training him, playing with him, and maybe teaching him agility and tricks. Someone who lives in a relatively low-key area with a fenced-in yard (not necessarily out in the middle of nowhere but also not in a busy city). We haven’t observed Buddy with children, but based on what we do know about him, he would likely do well with older children (10 and above). Buddy would also do well either with or without another dog and he does well with dog savvy cats.
