Meet Hank

Are you looking for a handsome, cuddly, and well-behaved best friend? Look no further!

Hank is an estimated 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound that was found as a stray in January 2021. For the last 10 months, Hank has been fostered by a professional dog trainer and has learned all about house manners, potty training, crate training, and basic obedience (heel, sit, stay, come, down, place, and look). Hank rides nicely in the car and waits patiently to exit the car until he is told. Hank eats all his meals in his crate, where he also waits patiently until released to eat his food. He has shown NO signs of resource guarding or aggression.

Hank is on the lazy side, so 1-2 miles a day of walking is all he requires. Hank is an absolute dream to walk on a leash but has presented signs of leash reactivity. He is NOT aggressive, he just prefers to keep his personal space. Hank’s reactivity has been successfully managed by using basic obedience commands. Hank’s ideal home is someone that is willing to understand leash reactivity and actively work on managing it. Additionally, Hank’s future home will be open to a lot of snuggles as he loves to cuddle up with his people.

Hank is crate trained and enjoys sleeping in his crate overnight. He will often hang out in his crate throughout the day without being prompted. Hank does not require crating when you leave the home. He has shown no signs of separation anxiety or destructive habits when left. He likes to watch you leave then curls up on the couch until you return home. He would, however, prefer not to have you leave for a full 8 hour workday, every day.

Hank currently resides with another dog and they get along extremely well. He enjoys dogs that will playfully wrestle and play a game of chase. Hank would do well in a home with another dog as long as the introduction is slow and non-confrontational. Hank likes other dogs but is not overly social. Therefore, he would not be a good fit for the dog park or doggy daycare.

Hank has been around a few children and prefers a home with respectful children over the age of 10. While he does not counter surf or dumpster dive, he would not hesitate to take food from a child’s hand if the opportunity presented itself. Hank can be shy around men and prefers to set the speed of the introduction. Hank does best when male guests completely ignore him and he can investigate at his own pace. One of Hank’s fosters is a male and they get along very well.

Hank is a loving, affectionate dog who is searching for his forever home. To ensure a smooth transition, Turning Point Dog Training is donating a 5 week training package to Hank’s future family. These training sessions can be held in-person or over Zoom. Hank is truly a great dog!
