Meet Gus

Gus has found his forever home with Erin and Jennifer in Hopkinson!

Gus is coming back to us because he has a high prey drive. He needs a home that will commit to managing this and leash walking him, as he can scale a fence. Approved adopters can meet him in his foster home. Please read his entire write up below.

Adoption coordinator Kathy

This scruffy boy is Gus! He is a Jack Russell/fiest/cur mix that is 4 yrs old and 35 lbs. He was an owner surrender in the south because he wouldn’t hunt squirrels and they were going to shoot him :-( coincidentally, he’s more than happy to hunt squirrels up here! He has med-high energy and will do best in an active home who will give him plenty of exercise. He loves playing with other dogs and would love a dog buddy. He’d also likely be fine as an only dog if given the opportunity to play with other dogs routinely. He has a very cuddly side and is described as “the sweetest dog who loves everyone he meets”. He has been ok with cats in the home, but a cat free home is best. He’s house trained and walks nicely on a leash. He barks loudly when he sees squirrels etc, so is not a good fit for an apartment/condo. He has a high prey drive/hunting instinct so would do best in a home who has experience with terrier type dogs. Great dog! Adoption fee $400.

Please complete an online APPLICATION if you wish to adopt. Forever Home Rescue New England is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a network of foster homes in the South and the New England area. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC SHELTER LOCATION. If you wish to meet our dogs, you must first be approved by going through our application and screening process. Forever Home Rescue suggests obedience training for all puppies and dogs. All dogs are up to date on their shots, dewormed and spayed or neutered. Vet fees, transport fee and New England quarantine fees ARE INCLUDED in each dog's adoption fee. Also, any dogs older than pups--even if they are not marked housetrained in their posting---usually housetrain within a day or two, because most are used to living outside in the south and will prefer to do their business outdoors. Our dogs and pups are best suited for families with children 5 yrs old and up. If you are approved to adopt, please submit the $100 deposit by clicking on our rescue's name in this posting (Forever Home Rescue New England--in purple) which will bring you to a new page with the deposit link at the bottom. STOP! If you have not been notified of your approval status do not make a deposit.
