Gus is a very special boy with a lot of love to give. He thrives in a household with a strong owner who can spend quality time with him. Gus loves to be with his people, paying no mind to anything else in the room. He wants to sleep next to you, sit with you on the couch and to be your car buddy. He quickly found his place within the 4 dog pack at his foster home, but the people in his life are who he really bonds with. Nothing makes him more content than to be by your side, so Gus was never observed trying to run away or be by himself. Gus needs an owner who can be a solid behavioral guide for him. He tunes into what you're feeling in any given moment, so being a calm, reliable source of emotional stability gives Gus the chance to be his best. Low and slow is the way Gus goes - introduce new people, routines and habits to Gus gradually and he will adapt with flying colors.
Gus responds well to structure - designated meal times, positive reinforcement with treats, clear verbal communication, etc... Gus knows how to be polite in a home. Aside from not being good with cats, he knows not to put his feet on people. He knows how to wait until he's given permission to walk though doorways and to wait for his food quietly as you're preparing it for him. Food is the most effective reward for Gus - he loves his treats! And he takes them so gently. He is as quiet as he is sweet - the only time he whines is when he wants to be with you but is either crated or blocked by a door or gate. The one time he was observed trying to bark, no noise came out! Gus is the "gentle giant" colloquialism come to life. He loves to love and be loved! “
