APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE
We will be reviewing all applications received to date and are no longer accepting applications as of March 29th 9am

Grover is an 8 yrs young, male, miniature poodle who has now been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and fully vetted in preparation for his new journey to his forever home.

Grover will require a family who is home often, as he does have verbal separation anxiety which he exhibits by barking. He is not destructive at all.
Grover will not be suitable for attached housing, so we are seeking a family in a detached home only, who will continue his training with patience while he settles in and learns that you will be coming back. He was left alone for very long hours in his previous home.

His new family must be dedicated to regular grooming for his poodle coat, and ready for lots of smiles and snuggles with this darling boy who adores all humans and is great with other dogs and cats, though he would be very content as an only dog soaking up all of the attention.
Grover settles nicely onto his bed in his foster's bedroom each night, but adores couch snuggles during relax times.

He lived alone most of his previous life and although he is blossoming in his foster home, doing very well at sharing his toys and humans, he is not a fan of dogs who are in his face following him around or cornering him.

Grover is very finicky about food, we tried many many quality diets including raw, kibble , canned etc. He will only eat Cookhouse cooked, balanced meat loaves, which are inexpensive and readily available at many local pet stores.

Grover does well with children who are respectful and kind. He is a small dog (15lbs) so older children only please as he would be easily injured if dropped, fallen on top of or escapes out an open door which young children may forget to close quickly.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PERFECT ADOPTIVE HOME FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED. Someone who is home most of the time or has other people to be home for him. Who will take him with them on social visits or to work, take him on nice walks and spend time playing fetch with him. He is great at the office and can be taken to work if allowed. Likely best as the only dog, but could be with another respectful dog. Great with all dogs that he meets outside of his home but would need training and integration help to settle with a dog in his home.

Good with cats. He needs a home who will allow him to cuddle with them on the couch and enjoy as much time together as possible!

Grover gets 2-3 walks per day (about 2km each, sometimes more), he will play inside with Fitz, loves to play fetch and chew bones (and sometimes toys). He has plenty of backyard time where he likes to run around and sniff a lot. We have been working on "wait" before crossing the road, "leave it" especially if another dog is walking by (he really wants to meet everyone, no reaction otherwise), "let's go" to try to deter him from sniffing every tree, "out of the kitchen" when we cook, which he has picked up quickly, "off" as he likes to greet you by jumping up gently.

He LOVES people, all people. He gets so excited to meet everyone, tail wags, jumps up (teaching him off), loves the attention. He will cuddle into strangers arms and legs when they pet him (male and female).

GOOD WITH CATS? Yes. He will chase once in a while, but they are nose to nose often and he respects her space. He has never shown aggression of any kind toward her. She is very playful and teases the dogs, but he is very good. He will come to you if called away as well.

Please read his entire profile before applying. An adoption application must be submitted to be considered. If the dog's listing is still showing, they are still accepting applications.

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

Notes:
*Must be located within Ontario Canada
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*A detached home is mandatory for this dog
*Registration with, and proof of graduation, is required.
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's written permission
* Must be committed to feeding his Cookhouse meat loaves as he will not eat otherwise and we've worked hard to put back on much needed weight and find a healthy food that he consistently will eat.

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require two in person meetings in St Jacobs ON

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, especially small breeds, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.
Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, I personally reply to all inquiries in addition to working full time (6 days a week) in addition to operating my rescue.
I am often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
