Meet Groot
Groot isn’t just a dog—he’s a best friend, a loyal companion, and a true Velcro Dane. At eight years old, he finds himself back with Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue after five years in a home. His family went through a divorce and Groot unfortunately could not stay.
From the moment you meet Groot, he’ll make you feel like you’ve been friends forever. He’s never met a stranger and has an endless supply of love to give. He adores kids, gets along wonderfully with other animals, and is always up for a good play session. A game of tug-of-war? Count him in! He’ll play until he’s tuckered out, then happily settle in by your side for snuggles and head scratches.
Groot is currently living in a foster home without other dogs, but he shares his space with cats and even rabbits—and he does great with all of them. He has previously lived around other dogs and gets along just fine with canine friends. He’s also proving that a fenced yard isn’t a requirement for him—he’s excellent on a leash and enjoys his walks like a true gentleman.
At 150 pounds, Groot is carrying a little extra fluff, so he’s on a weight-loss journey to help him feel his best. Luckily, he enjoys his daily walks, which are helping him slim down. One thing he doesn’t expend energy on? Barking. His foster family has never heard him make a peep—but don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s silent. When he sleeps, he snores like a freight train, and he fully expects you to find it adorable (which, let’s be honest, it is).
Groot is the perfect mix of playful and easygoing. He walks beautifully on a leash and even enjoys hiking, making him a great adventure buddy. He’s crate trained, but be warned—he will absolutely pull out his best puppy-dog eyes to convince you he doesn’t need to go in. He’s smart, affectionate, and just the right amount of stubborn to keep life interesting.
When it comes to toys, Groot has strong opinions. Stuffed toys? Absolutely not—he’ll destroy them in minutes. But give him a ball or a rope toy, and he’ll cherish it like a prized possession, carrying it everywhere he goes.
Groot is looking for a family who will love him for the rest of his days. We know his perfect matches out there with someone who will appreciate his goofy, loving nature and promise to always keep him close. Could that be you?
Groot is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm, negative, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $300.
