Gretta - Houston's Story

Meet Gretta! She is happy, playful, six-year-old girl who came to care with her sister, Agatha, after their human mama died. They were friendly but a little nervous, taking 2 to 3 months for their personalities to emerge fully as they became more adjusted and comfortable. Gretta is the more athletic of the two girls and loves to play. She collects and carries toys (or socks if they’re what’s available, lol) . She would love someone to play with her and help her figure out a play language together. Initially, she was weirded out by the cat but has grown to be accepting and affectionate seeing the cat as one of the pack. The foster cat is a very chill personality, so we do not know how other cats would do with Greta. It has been a happy adjustment in this particular case. Greta loves to go for walks on the leash and to sniff and play in the yard. She is doing well on her house training, with the normal caveats of an Italian greyhound. She needs plenty of opportunities to go outside and will use a pad at night time if she is loose in the room with access to a pad. She is also happy crated overnight with her sister.

Gretta and Agatha are available to be adopted individually or as a pair. They are sweet and playful with each other and happy chilling or playing together going for walks together. Their ideal Adopter would be someone who has Italian Greyhound experience and patience to work with them as they get comfortable in their new home and learn the new rules. They are lovely and will be great companions with the right family - families.

My Optimal Adoptive Home:
Moderate Energy/Activity.
Has someone that can come home at lunch and let me out to potty.
Has an area that can be set up for me to stay in during a full work day with potty pads.

I Do Well With:
Children under 12 unknown
Children over 12 yes
Cats yes
Other small dogs yes
Medium or Large Dogs yes

Apartment Homes maybe.
We have selected 'Maybe' as an option for apartment living. These are the requirements that must be met for this IG to be considered for an apartment home:
Gretta has exuberant energy and can be vocal. She’s quiet in her crate and most of the time. But she also likes barking at squirrels and neighbor dogs she sees and hears outside the windows at her foster home. So we’re not sure show she’d be in an apartment.

At night, I prefer to sleep in:
My kennel
A dog bed
My human's bed.

Walking on a leash
I walk very well on a leash and enjoy going for walks

Crate training-please note that we teach crating as a 'safe happy personal space' where the IG can rest/sleep when confinement is necessary. Crates should NEVER be used as a punishment or 'time out' space. I do just fine being in my crate for reasonable amounts of time.

Italian Greyhounds are known for housebreaking issues and most will have occasional accidents. Many come to us as surrenders due to excessive potty accidents indoors. This is typically the result of poor potty routines within the previous home so we do typically get them on track fairly quickly. As an IG parent you must be willing to commit to a structured and reasonable routine to keep your iggy from having excessive indoor accidents.

My house-training Status is:
Occasional accidents
We are working on it!
I know how to use designated potty pads indoors
