Meet Granite

Hi, I'm Granite a blue miniature poodle, about 10 years young and I weigh about 10 pounds. I was in a high-volume animal shelter and was facing a certain fatal end but now I'm looking for a family who's willing to give a special home to a special needs dog. I'm a special needs dog with limited hearing and limited sight in both eyes (I can only see shadows now) so you'll need to set up the house special for me (well lit rooms, floor picked up, don't move the furniture). I am SO good at giving love! I will follow you room to room, so I can sometimes get underfoot - you'll need to be careful! I'm crate trained but I would really love to sleep with you. I do sing the lonesome dog crate blues for a couple of minutes when I'm first crated, but it's all love songs about how I want to be near you. After those quick songs I settle right down knowing I'm safe in the dark now. I do like naps during the day, could you put a bed by your chair for me? I absolutely love taking long walks when it is cool out! Even though I can’t see well, I can move on down that road pretty darn quickly!! I do need to be on a harness and leash to make sure I am safe, not only due to my limited sight but also because I can’t really hear anything either. I am currently living with several cats and several small dogs and we all get along quite well. I am not around kids right now but would hope that if I am around them everyone understands that, because I can’t see or hear them, I cannot move out of their way and would likely be hurt if they stepped on me or handled me too roughly. I'm house trained but need to be taken out often so you will need to make arrangements for someone to take me out if you are gone for long. My foster mama works and uses a belly band and that works too. You'll need to give me some time to get used to new surroundings and to develop trust. Once I feel comfortable, my real personality shows through - loving and playful!

If you are that special family and are willing to give me a second chance at a good life, please send an email to pets2adopt@yahoo.com to see if I'll be at Petco Adoption Event on Sat. and we can have a great time meeting each other!

Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home.

Adoption fee for this dog is $175.

Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard. All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas. Since all of our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to pets2adopt@yahoo.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!
