Meet Gouda

Gouda is 1.5 years old and a little under 60lbs in weight.

Thankfully after a few internal medicine specialist visits, Gouda was able to receive a diagnosis and medication to treat his condition. He has diabetes insipidus which is NOT canine diabetes. Since he’s been in foster, he’s had excessive thirst and urination. After starting desmopressin (prescribed as a nasal spray), Gouda hasn’t been drinking nearly as much in volume and doesn’t have accidents inside! We’re also thrilled that the desmopressin is VERY affordable with the GoodRX app!
Gouda is NOT a jindo mix although regularly mistaken for one in his neighborhood. This beautiful boy came into rescue as an emaciated puppy. Carson Shelter in Los Angeles listed him as a 9 month old jindo . Honestly, it was difficult for us to make a breed determination on him but with the 4th of July coming quickly and having noted medical problems- TDF pulled. Gouda has filled out so beautifully and now we can tell he is very much a western breed doggo.
Throughout our experience with Gouda, we can say he is:
- exceptionally intelligent
- overall has very good social skills with dogs and people (of course with proper introduction)
- needs his innate needs satisfied: chewing, shredding, good play sessions with other dogs and lots of mental stimulation/decent amount of exercise
- will eat anything and everything
- isn’t noise sensitive and loves novelty (new places, new people, new friends, etc)
- is very sweet natured
- no signs of sep anxiety but can get into mischief and chew on inappropriate items if not watched
- has an adorable blep
- no aggression with other dogs or towards humans (he even loves the vet/vet techs and always gets many compliments)
Gouda does well with other dogs but can get jealous. His foster mom thinks ideally, if it was a two person home with another dog Gouda would do well. However, a one human home with other dogs may require a lot of management. He’ll take over dog beds, will interrupt another dog’s pet session (he is a teenager!).
