Meet GORDON

Gordon was found as a stray and turned in at the county shelter. He is a shy boy and had to be placed in a wagon and pushed to a kennel. Gordon slowly learned to be led by the leash, but he is still learning to trust that leashes lead to good things. Tugging on the leash will not work; you need patience and need to allow Gordon to go at his own pace, to make sure his confidence grows. County knew that Gordon needed the more personalized attention that a smaller shelter can provide, so they delivered him to Home Fur Good. Gordon is a two-year-old, 41-pound Australian Cattle Dog mix. He was briefly adopted out from Home Fur Good, but he has been returned. Hopefully, having spent time in a home will help him find the perfect home. A shy dog who has been under-socialized requires patience, training, time, and energy; he is not the right fit for everyone. During his time in a home, Gordon showed he is housetrained; Home Fur Good always warns that accidents can happen while a new dog learns the rules and routines of a new home. His adopters crated Gordon at night, but he was free to roam during the day. They said Gordon was friendly with strangers, good with kids, and skittish around other dogs. Gordon will instantly show you that he has the largest, softest, and gentlest heart for a young dog. He wants nothing more than to please you in hopes that it leads to amazing pets and kisses. Gordon either knows the command to sit or he has learned if he sits right next to a person it leads to affection. If you sit down with him, he will crawl into your lap. If you try to get up, he will wiggle around and try to keep you snuggling with him. Gordon needs to learn boundaries, and he needs to learn them in a positive way. Creating mutual respect with Gordon will reap rewards. Finally, Gordon will need an experienced dog owner, one who is active and willing to take him to training. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.
