OUR PROFILES ARE KEPT UP TO DATE AND REMOVED WHEN WE STOP THE APPLICATION PROCESS. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO READ PROFILES TO ENSURE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A DOG YOU COULD BE A MATCH FOR.

Glacier is a 6 month old Central Asian Shepherd puppy that arrived from Romania a couple months ago. She was surrendered to our rescue, through an Animal Control agency in Ontario.

We will not consider a first time dog owner for this puppy. You must come with large dog breed experience, and preference will be given to those with guardian breed experience.

The Central Asian Shepherd was bread to be a guarder of things most valuable to their owners, being family and possessions.

They are a good energy breed, and as a working dog, will require daily exercise, especially during the puppy phase. She is in her worst but most informative puppy months, just turning 6 months, so her adopter will need to work to guide and lead her to be the very best version of her adult self. A bond with this dog is a must and kindness, with leadership will help this dog blossom.

We suspect Glacier will grow to be between 80 - 100 pounds, so she will need a home with a large property.

Glacier is still working on her housetraining, and though doing well, may have set-backs in a new space. She is also very mouthy at the moment, so we will not place her in a home with kids 16 or under. She is in a foster home with a 7 year old and a 16 year old, but with puppy teeth and jumping up, it's too much for a smaller child.

Glacier seems to be fine with other dogs and is in foster care with a cat, but proper introductions will always be needed, and that does not mean she will universally be fine across the board with all dogs and cats.

FROM HER FOSTER:

Angel is a very sweet, lovable, happy go lucky puppy, we have all fell in love with her and will miss her so much.

Angel is great with cats, kids and other dogs and happy to meet new people and dogs on walks and hikes, not an ounce of aggression towards anything. Have food and toy tested her and no problems with either. Will hug her and be in her face and she just loves it, no problems.

She is super clumsy right now, her legs are just so big for such a young pup, she falls a lot when playing and does not do well on stairs yet.

When she does get excited and playing she can get mouthy, like all puppies, and being as big as she is for 5 ½ months you will need to watch with smaller children.

The first few nights we had Angel contained in the kitchen and each night she cried more and more so we finally just let her free and she did so well just sleeping on her bed in the living room and not getting into anything. Same as when we leave the house, she is just perfect. She has several options of shoes, toys and furniture and doesn’t touch a thing. When she’s feeling playful and wants attention she will grab a shoe, sock, remote, glasses and just walk around with it until someone notices and pays attention. She will sit, lay down and give paw for treats...sometimes before asked if she hears the treat jar.

I think we’ve put her in almost every situation being a busy family of 5+ pets....kids being loud, crazy cousin visits, coming and going from house, car rides, walks, hikes, meeting lots of people and other dogs and she is just so laid back, happy and cool with anything. If she is kept socialized she will do really well. She LOVES being outside playing soccer and ball hockey with the kids, she makes a great goalie stopping anything from getting in the net. She also loves suntanning and watching the squirrels run along the fence making sure they don’t enter the yard.

When she is inside she is fairly calm and will settle and sleep quite a bit.

She will need more leash training but she is doing really well so far.

The other thing she does need work on is house training...She has never pooped in the house but pee is another story. She holds it through most nights and when we go out and leave her, but will have accidents in the house when we're home.

She will need consistent training to overcome this and I know she will, she is so smart. For now we have pee pads scattered everywhere and she seems to hit them most of the time.

If we had the space for full grown Angel, this would have been our first foster and foster fail. We are all so in love with her and really want her to have the amazing life she deserves. Angel will be a great addition someone will be so lucky to have her. We are not looking forward to saying goodbye to her, I’m getting choked up writing this.

---------------------

As of today, though our protocols could change tomorrow, we are still moving forward with adoptions. Our process has changed from some of the previous elements: We are a registered animal welfare organization, so we are deemed an essential service.

All paperwork completed online, video home visits, meet and greets outside respecting social distancing, leashes/collars/supplies wiped down and disinfected (GermiCide 3 wipes), disinfectant on the dog prior to handoff (Aqueos wipes for dogs)

-----------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in his current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

We do not specifically kid/cat test our dogs when they arrive at Mattie's Place. That just wouldn't be fair to the dog or child/cat.

We also do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed.

Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, defleaing, vaccinations, food, nose to tail health exam, leash|collar, 6 months of preventative based on season/need, DNA test for entertainment purposes, dishes, poop bags, food and any extras accumulated in foster care
