Meet Gina

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

This adorable little girl is Gina! She is around 7-8 years old, and found herself at a local shelter where she was brought in as a stray. As you can see, she is cute as can be and quickly won the hearts of everyone who has met her.
She quickly settled into her foster home. She loves everyone she meets, kids and adults. Attention is her favorite thing. When you stop petting her she taps you with her paw to remind you that you’re not done adoring her yet. She has some energy and does like to do zoomies around the yard a little. She’s also a big big fan of a nice nap in a sunbeam.
She lives with 4 other dogs and does great with them. She wants them to play, but they are less interested, and she quickly gives up. She has also lived amicably with cats.

We did find out that she is diabetic. She is doing great on 1.5 units of Vetsulin insulin, which she gets twice a day. She just had a curve done at the vet, which is a one day test at the vet to see how well regulated her sugars are. This showed she’s doing great on her current dose. Anyone who adopts her will need to give her insulin injections twice a day. It’s a tiny needle, and we can show you how! She can be a bit dramatic with the insulin shots, but we’ve got it down and now she doesn’t even flinch.

She loves food. LOVES. FOOD. Meal time is her favorite time of day. She does happy dances for food. But she’s never guarded or caused an issue with the other dogs. She is housebroken, but sometimes (probably due to the diabetes) she can’t hold her urine. When that happens she is pee pad trained. But she’s been VERY good and has even been holding it overnight.
She is just a happy, silly girl who so desperately wants to be loved and have a family of her own. Could that be you?
