• NAME: Gia
• AGE: ~1.5 years old
• WEIGHT: ~20 lbs
• BREED(S): Miniature Schnauzer and Terrier mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!)
• GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
• GOOD WITH CATS? No
• GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.
• HOUSEBROKEN? No, not 100% yet. Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.
• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved
**Meet GIA**
A friend sent a photo on a stormy night in September—a pregnant dog seeking shelter wherever she could find it. Sometimes the local clinic would feed her, but mostly Gia wandered the streets alone, her belly heavy with puppies she was struggling to sustain. At 9 PM, with thunder rolling overhead and rain about to unleash, her foster mom didn't hesitate. She rushed out to find Gia before the storm hit, and there she was—still on the street, waiting.
**The Girl Who Survived the Storm**
That night changed everything for Gia. Rushed into surgery to save her life, she lost the litter she'd carried through weeks of uncertainty on the streets. The puppies couldn't survive—her malnourished body simply couldn't support them. But Gia? She fought through it all with a spirit that amazes everyone who meets her.
"She's honestly very calm, doesn't cause trouble, doesn't bark—she's such a good dog," her foster mom explains. Even in isolation, recovering from surgery and loss, Gia greets every visit with pure joy. The moment someone enters with medication or just to check on her, she lights up the room with her happiness.
**Love Despite Loss**
In the quiet of the recovery room, Gia's true nature shines through: her gentle eyes that follow your every movement, a tail that wags despite everything she's endured, and a trust so complete it takes your breath away.
Each gentle touch brings visible contentment. Each kind word earns unwavering devotion. This is a dog who has every reason to fear humans, yet chooses love instead.
**The Real Gia Awaits**
Her foster family is eager to discover who Gia truly is once she's fully healed. Will she play with toys for the first time? Chase butterflies in the garden? Learn what it means to have a warm bed that's truly hers?
It might take a few more weeks to fully discover Gia's lovely personality, but what's already clear is that Gia possesses something extraordinary: resilience wrapped in gentleness, strength paired with an enormous capacity for affection.
**Your Missing Piece**
Gia's survived the worst and somehow emerged with more love to give than many dogs who've known only comfort.
Are you the one who will help her discover what joy looks like after healing? The one who will witness her transformation from survivor to beloved family member?
