Meet GERTIE!

MEET GERTIE!

This stunning apricot-colored brindle pittie found her way to City of Elderly Love after being brought to Philly's animal control shelter as a stray. Shockingly, Gertie spent a month and a half in the shelter without catching the eye of a new family so City of Elderly Love happily scooped her up as soon as a foster home was available. This wonderful girl is now ready land a home that will match her amazing personality!

Gertie is likely around 7 years old and has great energy! You'd never guess this girl was older if it weren't for her graying muzzle! She loves, loves, loves to play. She's an absolute sweetheart who is super eager to please. She’s all of the good things about puppies and old dogs combined. She’s obedient and potty trained, adorable (duh!), and likes to play fetch but only for about 10 minutes before she gets tired and needs a nap. She’s happy to snooze all day long but also always up for a walk to the coffee shop, park or go for a car ride! She knows sit, stay, lie down, and “eat,” although you do have to be a bit stern with her when saying the commands because otherwise she gets too excited that you’re talking to her and won’t stop wiggling her butt (adorable!). Gertie is housebroken and crate trained! She also has a stuffed dog (her "baby") that she loves to carry everywhere with her.

Gertie currently lives with cats and is great with them, although every once in a while she forgets how much bigger she is than them and will try to play (and promptly gets swatted). Silly girl! Gertie has done well when meeting other dogs! She sometimes need a chance to settle down before interacting because she gets so excited at the thought of getting to make a new friend. So she'd do best with another playful dog who doesn't mind a bouncy senior puppy. Gertie would also do well in a home with older kids, especially those who love to throw a ball or play tug of war!

Gertie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and mcirochipped. She is also heartworm and lymes disease negative. She also recently had her teeth cleaned and her vet evaluation shows shes a healthy girl! Interested in adopting her?
