Meet Georgia

Adoptable Georgia is a sweet approximately 6 year old pittie. She loves people but seems to prefer adults, teenagers stress her out a bit, and would do best in an all adult home. Georgia has seen a veterinary behaviorist for anxiety. Noises (noises occurring outside when she is inside - ie. car or truck noises, construction work noise, fireworks, storms) and boundaries (people outside while she is inside) are issues for Georgia. The veterinarian has prescribed medication to Georgia to help with her anxiety. She happily takes her medication. She comes running when she hears a pill bottle being opened because she knows she is about to get a tasty treat. The medication helps her to be a happier, calmer dog. Georgia is not crate trained. She would likely hurt herself trying to get out of a crate. She has free range in her current home and has never been destructive. She loves attention and being with people. She will sit on your feet or on your lap if able. She likes chin scratches, belly rubs, butt scratches, and snuggling on the couch. She enjoys playing with sturdy stuffed toys (otherwise they don't last long), tug, running after a ball, and rolling in the grass or on a carpet. She also loves a sunny spot, either inside or outside. Georgia loves fruits and vegetables. Some of her favorites are fresh red bell pepper and cucumber as well as frozen blackberries. Georgia travels well in a car. She does not seem to like colder weather but does like a sweater on a chilly day.

Georgia would do best with a fenced yard to run around in. She has weekly zoomies that are usually short bursts. While she does enjoy going on walks, she is very reactive to other dogs on leash, whether she sees them or just hears them, which can make walking her very challenging. Georgia has had limited experience with other dogs off leash. She would do best as an only dog in the home, who does not have interactions with other dogs.

Georgia is a smart girl who is highly treat motivated. She has solved all the dog puzzles she has been given, purchased or homemade. She knows sit, down, wait, shake, high five, watch me, touch (nose to palm), fist bump (nose to fist), bed (go to), hungry (runs to where her food is kept), and go to place (working on duration). She sits nicely until being told "okay" before eating. She has also learned a positive interrupter signal which helps to distract or redirect her from noises she finds scary. Georgia's reaction when a visitor comes to the door is challenging and a work in progress.
