George's Story

George is approximately 4 years old (updated), 35-40 lbs guy looking for his forever home (currently fostered in Florida, some transport available). Found as unclaimed stray in Georgia, he spent a couple months at the rescue and then was in a new home for a couple months (returned through no fault of his own) so we would love to make his next move his last. He has been with his foster for the past week and here is her initial assessment:

George is a sweet and very curious boy…in this week, he is adjusting well and getting manners, has figured out the doggie door, respects a 4 foot fence (so far) and has gone into his kennel when we leave willingly with a special treat. He is curious about the goats and chickens but not obsessive. He left his prior owner’s cat alone and I think he would be a loyal friend to an older child (overall he is definitely a people loving dog). He loves to curl up with you and get loved on. He was kenneled in the bedroom the first night and fussed a bit before settling down. He is better on a doggie bed on the side of the bed (with his leash around my arm) but I know he would rather sleep on the bed with us. :)
I think an ideal home for George would have a yard and a female dog friend (gets along fine with my female) and even some older children (I am just not sure with toddlers). Does not really get along with bigger older neutered male dog they are developing some tension. There is a bit of a thief in him and his lack of social boundaries is not appreciated by my male dog resulting in some scuffles. However, he did very well with a visiting 4 month old male bully pup and I can take food and toys from him with no problem. He is enjoying frequent leashed walks and time running around our yard…
George has a floating rib which doesn’t bother him but he does require ear preventive maintenance (like many Pei)... tolerates getting drops and ear massaging (but will run if he sees the bottle coming). I think his prior food made him itchy so we are trying another brand. He was treated for heartworm and is continuing preventative but will need retested at 1 year to ensure it’s gone... he will require special medication on the 1st and 15th of the month for the next year (which we have).

If you would like to be this boy's new forever family, start by completing an application on our website.
