Galahad is on thyroid medication and will remain on it for the rest of his life. He also has some occasional hip pain and takes supplements to help his body recover from presumably being a bait dog that was emaciated and covered in wounds when he was found.
Galahad is house trained but does not vocally tell you he needs to go. He will stare at you until you notice him. Galahad will get into a kennel if treats are in hand. He would prefer to sleep with the kennel door open or on a comfy couch/bed. Galahad walks on a leash wonderfully and rarely pulls. He is not a good car rider. He struggles to get in and out of a car, especially if it is taller. Galahad knows how to sit and is very treat motivated. This boy can definitely learn new tricks with some patience.
Galahad is very picky about his dog friends. Due to Galahad’s assumed history, he can be reactive. Medium-Large, more mature dogs, who will not nip his ears are preferred. He gets along with most of the resident dogs, but he is selectively reactive. Any dogs should be slowly introduced. His best friend is a 25lb German Shepherd puppy and a 50lb Chow mix. Large square build dogs intimidate him and he does not get along with smaller (less than 15lb, Chihuahua sized) dogs. He is not good with cats and should not be around small pets. Galahad does not live with any children currently. Only older children who will not grab Galahad’s ears are recommended. He came to us with severely infected ears and he does not like his ears being suddenly touched or pulled back.
Galahad is a medium energy dog. He is very much a couch potato. I think his favorite activity is sleeping but he does enjoy a stroll around the yard and playing with his toys. Every now and then he will get a little hoppy (though he’s never jumped on anyone) and excited. Galahad is both a gentle giant and a bull in a China shop at the same time. He is a cuddle bug but doesn’t always realize how big he is.
