Meet Gabe

Meet Gabe, a young hound mix from Virginia who is blind. The vet says he has detached retinas although it is unclear if he was born that way. Gabe is about two years old and weighs about 40 lbs. He has settled in nicely at his foster home in Pennsylvania and is working hard on house training. He has no accidents in the morning/overnight and none during the day if he can get outside every few hours. His foster mom says, "Overall though, he's a dream. I would not say he has anxiety at all, he's very calm and sweet. He knows our yard now, and has really mastered following me around by my voice and responding to "careful" to avoid obstacles. He's great with the cats and our dog, aside from bumping into them sometimes. He's really easy going in the house, he finds a dog bed or his crate and chews his toys. He has a good appetite, and takes treats well. He's such a sweet boy that really wants to be with people. He's started to play with me outside, jump around and do play bows. It's the cutest thing. I feel so grateful to have met and cared for him. I was initially nervous about helping a blind dog, but it hasn't felt like any extra work. I can't stress how calm and easy going he is! Such a sweetheart." Gabe is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment.
