Meet Gabby

-- Gabby is the sweetest pit bull boxer I've ever cared for. Although she hasn't met many dogs yet, the few she's encountered on walks have been greeted with wagging tails and excitement. I'm confident she'd love to have a playmate to wrestle with. We also have neighbor dogs on the other side of the fence, and she has never barked at them or tried to jump. In the six weeks we've been fostering her, she's only barked four times.

As a former stray found in the park, Gabby still eats her meals quite quickly, so we feed her twice a day in the late morning and evening, along with 3-5 treats daily. Being a stray, she often looks for food and water on walks, so we keep a close eye on what she's sniffing.

Though she may be around five years old, she has all the playful energy of a puppy. Gabby gets excited when meeting new humans, but she calms down within a few minutes and settles in nicely.

We have a large, older cat, and they get along wonderfully. We kept them apart for the first week to ensure a smooth introduction, but now they enjoy each other's company. Gabby has given the cat gentle sniffs and licks, and our kitty often rubs against her, showing affection. Gabby is also great with our friends' kids!

She is house-trained and crate-trained. Gabby sleeps in her kennel while we're away and sometimes at night, but we only keep her in there for a maximum of five hours. We've made her kennel a safe space by giving her all her milk bone treats there, and now she even naps inside with the door open.

When we leave the house, Gabby goes into her kennel, but I think she's nearly ready to stay out in our enclosed kitchen area while we're gone.

Gabby came to the shelter with heartworms but has already begun the treatment to rid her body of these nasty parasites. The shelter will cover the cost of her treatment after adoption.

Thank You for your interest in Gabby. She is currently living in a foster home. If you would like to meet her please email foster@kcpetproject.org
