Update 9/10/2016. Looking for a loyal snuggler? Foster is still young and approximately a year and a half old. Since he is young, he is full of energy and willingness to learn. He is smart as a whip; must be because he is likely part Whippet. He does love to work for treats, and if you are looking for someone to curl up with you in bed at night, he's your guy! He may even sneak under the blanket with you. One of his favorite spots will likely be on your lap! He's 40 pounds so he doesn't take up all the room.
Foster's first few weeks and months are little unknown and were likely quite rough for him. For that reason, he wants to meet you and other dogs on his terms: cautiously and slowly so he knows you are a friend. Then he'll want to play and snuggle with you. His current foster home includes a cat, a large, male dog, and two small kids. However, because he is still young and energetic, he will likely do best in a house with older kids who respect that he is still young and energetic. He is house trained and goes into his crate willingly when his humans must go out of the house. He can jump and for this reason, a home with a privacy fence is desired. While Foster is nervous around new people, with the proper introductions and a bit of time he can become your new friend.
The best home for him will have patient, loving humans that have time to spend with him during the day so he doesn't have to be crated all day long. He would love a dog friend who likes to play and wrestle, but also an environment that allows for him to have some calm time too. Foster, sweet pup, suffered from separation anxiety, but over time with consistency and patience, this has diminished quite significantly. He happily goes into his crate for treats and a sweet, peanut butter Kong or yummy bone. He is fine for several hours at a time in the crate though and comes with a very fancy crate. A home with a fenced yard is required. A home where new people are not coming and going daily would be best.
However, because he is young, a family or person that perhaps has flexible time and doesn't plan on crating him for 8-10 hours each day will be best. Then, he'll spoil you with silly spins for treats, kisses, and lots and lots of snuggles. He is truly loyal to his family and really loves to please them, especially when rewarded with treats.
