Meet Flynn

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

Flynn was picked up as a stray in Mobile County, AL. It was reported that his owners were known but they never went to the shelter to claim sweet Flynn. It is just as well because they did not take very good care of him. He came in with some hair-loss, a hot spot on his face, and an old wound on his left hind foot. Since his former owners did not given him heartworm preventive, Flynn tested positive for heartworm and now has to go through treatment to rid his precious body of the worms. Although we do not know for sure, Flynn is likely a Golden mixed with some Collie and, of course, he is very cute! He is estimated to be about 2-3 years-old. He came in severely underweight but is now putting on some much-needed weight. When he is at a healthy weight for his height, he should weigh around 75 lbs.

One of the vet techs who cared for Flynn fell head over heels in love with him and shared some very heart-felt details with us about him:

"I want to start by saying that Flynn is a very special dog. You need to take things slow and take your time to win his heart. He started out a bit stand-offish and unsure how he felt about anyone. He isn’t the same way now though and when he warms up to you, it will make your heart swell up knowing that he loves you. He likes when you take him outside and spend time with him and he prefers to be off-leash in a fenced yard. The leash means that playtime is over in the yard. You might need to hide it and put it behind your back to get it on him. He enjoys the breeze and just the fresh air. Just sit with him and enjoy the day together. Maybe tell him about your day. He would like that. He loves when you cup his face in your hands and scratch behind his ears. Careful cause if you move your hands away he will follow your hands for more. When he is comfortable he will play bow a lot and if you do it back he will run all around you and stop in front of you to do it all over again. He isn’t a big fan of the ball but I know if you practice enough he will eventually start to play with you. He really wants to be friends with other dogs so maybe try and I think it would be good for him to have some friends. When he is totally comfortable with you, he will walk beside you as you walk around. He will even lay his head against your leg and look up at you with so much love. It makes me wanna cry thinking about it. He just loves very much when you put the same amount of love into him. He does get jealous if you don’t take him out before any other dog. He wants to be your dog and will bark at you if you give attention to someone else. When he gets mad at you, like if you pet another dog, he will ignore you. You can go over and try to get him to look at you but he will just look away. You will see his eyes look over at you though because he can’t help but look at you! Haha! He really likes hugs. If you sit down you can just hold him and hug him and he will give you as much time as you need.

He eats very well. I haven’t found a treat that he hasn’t liked yet. He doesn’t like to take them from your hand though. It’s best if you just set it down and let him get it himself. He is a very gentle dog and even if you stick you hand in his bowl he will stop eating and let you do what you need to. He isn’t a loud dog. The only time he made noises is if he wanted my attention or if he wanted to meet another dog. Other than that he is a very good boy who lays down and naps. I love this dog and I hope whoever adopts him gives him all the love in the world because he deserves it. This guy has stolen my heart and he will steal yours too. Please take great care of him for me."

Now doesn't that just melt your heart???

Additionally, Flynn's foster mom has told us that Flynn is completely house-broken and trustworthy in the house. He is not a huge fan of riding in the car, but he does okay. He is a great eater and a champion snuggler!! He loves his dog beds and blankets but especially loves to cuddle on the couch with his humans.

Flynn has been neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. He will be going through heartworm treatment and should be ready to come north to be adopted in mid-May.

ABOUT OUR RESCUE
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters will be required to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may indicate that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are frequently getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and complete the application process so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on the observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters, and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will behave and adapt in your home.

All dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. However, if an adopter's vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog may be returned and a full refund would be provided.

Most of our dogs are fostered in private homes. We do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! To this end, the rescue retains an interest in each dog and our dogs can never be surrendered, re-homed, or sold. Should an adopter no longer be able to keep their SGRR dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer providing proper care. Adopters agree to follow up visits as needed.
