Meet Floyd

Floyd the teddy bear is ready to find his forever family! ♥

From his foster mom:

"When I look at Floyd, I think of a giant teddy bear. He is so fluffy, and you just want to cuddle him all day long. Lucky for us, Floyd loves to cuddle and will happily oblige while you dote over him, and will even give you the Pyr Paw if he thinks you have stopped petting him. Floyd has such a great personality, and is by far one of my easiest fosters yet! Floyd is incredibly sweet but also sensitive. He picks up on your emotions and knows when it is time to ask for pets and when you are busy. Floyd absolutely adores attention and totally melts into you when you give him lovings, but the fact that he isn't pushy about pets makes you just want to love on him even more!

Floyd has not gotten on any furniture with us but loves dog beds. Both soft and the raised kind. Floyd is completely potty trained, but like a typical male will happily mark everything he is in a new area outside. I just roll my eyes and encourage him to keep walking with me...as long as he is doing it outside...I have no complaints. Floyd has never been kenneled and given that this guy is 119lbs he doesn't need to be stuffed in a kennel all day long. He has SUCH good house manners and it simply isn't necessary for him. He doesn't chew, he isn't destructive, and he tends to just sleep the day away. Floyd loves to explore but he is BIG dog and if he wants to go somewhere, he will suddenly show a strength that you weren't prepared for. Be it pushing his way into a room, trying to come out the door with you when you leave, or pulling you somewhere to go check something out. Because of this, he needs a family that can handle his strength when he decides to turn into the hulk and becomes immovable or drags a 140lb person with them like they are nothing. Don't worry though, he isn't a rowdy dog and is actually pretty lazy. You only meet the hulk side of him when he REALLY wants to go somewhere. Floyd the teddy bear would be a wonderful addition to any family that is looking for a lower-maintenance dog that occasionally has super strength. ;) "

Floyd is a 5.5-year-old, 119lb Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix. Yes, you read that right. He is 119lbs and it truly suits this guy. Despite his size, people are drawn to him like moths are too light. He just has this aura that attracts both people and dogs alike. It may be his calmer demeanor, or it could be because it is easy to tell that this dog doesn't have a mean bone in his body! I doubt he would even go after a fly that was buzzing all over his face. Floyd is good with other dogs, and I do believe he enjoys their company very much. He is not big on playing though, and will often ignore the attempts from my cocker spaniels to play with him...which is quite funny. A 30lb Cocker is trying to rile up a 119lb teddy bear, and he just acts like they aren't even there! One of the things that became apparent very quickly about Floyd is that he does NOT like to be left alone. When he was at the vet for his entropion surgery, he kept whining in his kennel. While that was all he did, it just about broke everyone's heart. Floyd initially would jump and paw at the door when his foster mom left to work, but has since stopped now that he has settled in. With that said, if he had been the only dog we feel he may have panicked a bit more so this guy really needs a doggie friend in his new home. Floyd is good with cats and pays them no mind...unless they run. Then he wants to chase after them and see what is going on. Once he realizes nothing exciting is happening, he quickly loses interest and goes on his way. Floyd is not currently being fostered around kids. While we feel he would probably do well with them, the kids should definitely be older. Floyd is a teddy bear but that doesn't mean he wants to be climbed on or have young ones trying to "ride" him. Along with that, he is quite a big boy and may accidentally knock a younger kiddo over. He would much rather have an older kiddo who stretches out on the floor with him and gives him calm and gentle lovings.

Floyd is always right by the door when you leave and is always hoping that he can go with you. He will jump right in the car, but if you don't buckle him in he will be trying to ride shotgun before you even get in. It is quite funny, most of his body is on the passenger seat is on the seat and then his head/shoulders are on the floorboard. Almost like he is hoping that you won't see that he snuck onto the passenger seat! Floyd hasn't been on any walks but has gone to work with his foster mom a few times. As long as nothing catches his interest, he does pretty well on a leash. However, if he sees something that he wants to check out...he will. There is no if, and, or but about it. The funny thing is, I don't even think that he "tries" to do it. He just simply wants to check something out and probably doesn't even realize that he just took you with him like you weigh nothing. After some encouragement, he is ready to get back on track and start walking again. Floyd would probably enjoy going on hikes with his new family. With that said, he is not what we would call an active dog. So, doing things every now and then would suit him just fine. At other times though, he would prefer the homebody life.

Floyd is not a big barker, in fact, he is a pretty quiet guy. He will whine quite a bit the first day or two, and who can blame him..this guy has gone through quite a bit of change lately. Floyd will bark when the sirens go off, but they soon turn into howls and I have to say...they are the cutest thing ever! I LOVE Floyd's howls. They are so deep, and you can tell that they come from deep down in his soul. They are almost a bit sorrowful and pull a reaction from me every single time. As soon as the sirens stop, he goes about his business as if nothing ever happened. Floyd would not be a candidate for apartment living. One, because he would take up quite a bit of it, but two because he loves having a yard to explore and romp around in. He isn't someone who wants to stay outside though, he is usually back bu the door wanting in rather quickly. However, it is easy to tell that he loves getting to check everything out when we first let him out and just get to be "free".

Floyd is looking for a home that has at least one other dog in it for companionship. Now, remember he isn't a player so getting him as a playmate for your current dog wouldn't be a good idea. However, if you have another chill dog that seems like he could use a friend, Floyd would be a wonderful choice. Floyd is a pretty lazy but he needs someone who can handle his strength on walks, or when he really wants to follow you somewhere in the house. Floyd is overall a pretty lazy dog when at home, but would love if his new family took him places with them from time to time.

If you are interested in offering Floyd a forever home, you can apply to adopt her at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Once this app comes in, it will be sent to his foster family. This is to help ensure that it is not only a good fit for you but Floyd as well.

Floyd is being fostered in Tulsa, OK. If you have fallen in love with him and are out of state, how about a road trip? We don't send our fluffy butts on commercial transports. So, if you want one of our amazing fluffy butts, it is time to plan a trip to good ole Oklahoma ?

His adoption fee is $250.00.
That will include his DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. She will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
