Meet Flossi: Bichon Frise female, spayed, 7yrs young

Introducing Flossi!
She is a precious, shy 7yrs young Bichon Frise female who was surrendered to our rescue by a commercial breeder when they retired her from their breeding program

Current weight 13lbs, Flossi is a wee girl who is still learning that humans can be kind and safe and provide TLC and patience, after her previous life was certainly not kind to her.

View more photos and videos in her album here https://tinyurl.com/Flossi-album

Flossi is still cautiously exploring her world and slowing blossoming to learn to trust people and be more brave in new environments. She requires a patient, calm family whom will allow her to come to you as her confidence grows, and to work with her socialization with love and kindness.

MANDATORY for her new forever home
*Fully fenced yard/full supervision in person during outside time.
Flossi is too timid to walk on leash yet She cannot be put out on a tie out nor live in a home with a dog door or unfenced pool.
* Mandatory to have another gentle dog in her new home to help her confidence and companionship needs
Flossi is being fostered with two other small breed dogs and two cats, she is fine with them but she would not appreciate a dog who is in her face or pawing at her etc.
* Flossi requires a home without children due to her timid nature
*Due to her breed life expectancy of up to 16yrs, she is not a suitable match for older seniors. Our goal for every dog is to be able to live a full life in their forever home without ever having to be rehomed.

Flossi has now been spayed, microchipped, had her bloodwork done, negative for heartworm and all tick diseases, and up to date on her vaccinations. Flea/tick prevention and fecal tested negative for parasites

Flossi has also completed her dental cleaning and removal of any decayed teeth

Notes from Flossi's foster:
Energy level: low to moderate

She always wakes up between 7:30 and 7:45 every day.
We get up , she goes into the Livingroom – pee pads are here.
While we make every effort to housetrain the dogs in our care, Flossi is still learning and due to her timid nature, she has pee pads as an option to help direct her to appropriate areas until she is able to be harnessed for outside potty breaks throughout each day.
Has breakfast, small nap or runs around, we go outside weather
permitting, treats, afternoon is a game lick pad, puzzle, out a few more times always with harness and leash, supper, outside again then bed, She sleeps through the night

Is your foster dog food motivated? very

She has been very good with my 2 dogs and 2 cats from the start

How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people in their home environment and outside of the home?

She gets spooked and hides but then peeks around the corner and comes part way to check them out.

Good with cats? very

Any guarding behaviours -none but she tends to try to steal treats from the other 2. They let her

Housetrained? No

Crate trained? Yes-will tolerate sleeping in it but wants out by 7 am. Barks
and howls if she isn’t let out

Flossi does much better being alone if she has the other dogs for companionship. If the dogs and I are not there she barks after about 2 min. No problems if I am out and she has the dogs for company.
She is fine being left uncrated while I am gone, using baby gates to limit access to just the living and diningrooms. Flossi cannot do stairs yet.

Leash skills: Flossi is not yet confident enough for walks. When we go out to the patio, she is harnessed and leashed but more focused on keeping away from me
She cannot be let out into the yard without harness/leash as you would not be able to catch her to bring her back inside

How does she respond to handling/grooming:
Once I coral her and pick her up there is no issue touching petting etc, she gets spooked if you try otherwise. This is getting better slightly easier to be able to pick
her up as she learns to feel safer.

Current personality/temperament
Laid back, calm but always ready to react to movement by avoidance
I believe she has the potential to be a loving cuddle bug with the right family who will be patient and earn her trust.

Flossi is currently being treated for an ear infection which is improving with daily cleaning and medicated treatments.

Potty habits: on pee pads most of the time

She doesn’t respond to commands yet but will come if you call her and hold your hand out with a treat.

Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home:
Right now, she is too fearful for training and moving to a permanent home could cause more anxiety. She requires a family whom is experienced with timid dogs and allows her to come around on her own time

Strengths/areas they have improved on:
confidence in voicing her wants - lets me know meals are late

Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles?
Flossi is a very good traveller crated
