Meet Finian

Meet Finian, an approximately 4 month old heeler/cattle dog/terrier mix who became a Misfit when he found himself at the shelter badly injured after an attack. This pet is neutered, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, heart-worm negative, and micro-chipped!

Where do we start with describing Finian??? His foster mom calls him her little sausage because he is short and squatty and is always the last in the stampede when she calls the foster dogs inside. It might because he has yet to discover he can bend his legs when he runs. It is a run like no other and you won’t want to miss seeing it in person! Not only does he run like an old man, he is one of the funniest dogs you will ever meet. He is full of life, has never met a stranger (2 legs or 4) and is always looking for fun!

Finian’s story reminds us of why we do what we do in rescue. At such a young age, this poor dog had been through so much, yet he has never let that dampen his spirits. He does lack the concept of personal space, so while he LOVES other dogs, some dogs don’t necessarily love him. He will do best in a home with another high energy pup to run and tumble with, or a very laid back, go with the flow furry sibling. He lives with cats and has never really paid much attention to them. He has a very loud bark and will alert his humans to noises he doesn’t know. For this reason, he probably would not do well in an apartment setting. Not to mention, he needs exercise and plenty of run around time!

Finian is pretty much potty trained and kennel trained (only occasional accidents at this point) and is very good about letting his foster mom know if he needs to go outside. He does well on a leash, but mainly because when he is on the leash, he is more concerned about getting pets from strangers than the rope attached to him! Finian has not been around kids and while he is rambunctious, he could probably be taught good and bad behavior with children – but an owner with young children will need to be committed to helping him learn. Finian will do fantastic with an active family that will take him on all of the adventures and teach him about the world!
