Meet Fergus
FERGUS: Fergus is a sweet and handsome 9 week old mixed breed puppy, thought to possibly have some labrador retriever and heeler ancestors, among likely many other breed contributors. Fergus and his sister Fiona, also available for adoption, were found abandoned at 4 weeks of age and brought to rescue. This is a very tough start for any puppy. Without a mother, Fergus and Fiona have had to fend for themselves and missed most of the lessons on social and survival skills that mom, and littermates, to some degree, would have imparted. Fergus has been in foster care for the past two weeks, and once he had learned the ropes in this new setting, which took less than 2 days, transformed from a timid, cautious guy to a happy and playful puppy. He loves tormenting his sister, tracking scents when hiking, toys, especially those with squeakers, and playing with the older dogs here. He has not had any experience with cats. Fergus had a wellness check with the veterinarian on November 1st and is up to date on vaccinations, deworming, and treatment for fleas and ticks. He is likely to grow up to be a large dog. He currently weighs about 20 pounds. Fergus is crate trained and is able to spend 6 to 7 hours crated overnight without accidents. He is allowed some free time indoors with supervision, he enjoys hanging out on the couch with his sister and watching television shows that feature either dogs, or singing humans. He is working on leash training and house manners and masters new tasks quickly. He does worry and hang back a bit when new situations arise. For this reason, Fergus would do well in a home with an older confident dog. Even without another canine companion, an adopter willing to provide training, support, daily exercise, and a steady stream of new experiences to Fergus will be rewarded with an amazing companion.
