Feliz Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Adamstown, MD

Feliz is a 1.5 yo male ACD mix. He is neutered, microchipped, housebroken, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Although Feliz was heartworm positive upon arrival to his foster home, he recently finished treatment and ready for his forever home!

Like his name suggests, Feliz is a happy, silly, boy who is medium energy. He is a wiggleworm who loves to play and snuggle with his chosen human and other dogs. He is somewhat timid and will take a while to warm up to his new person. He currently lives with one human, 4 dogs, and 2 cats. He is respectful of the cats and gets along well with the dogs; he has not been around children while in foster care. Feliz enjoys hikes, walks well on leash, and LOVES the water. He would thrive in a home with a pond, pool, or humans engaged in water-related activities. He has good recall and probably wouldn’t need a fenced yard as he has shown little propensity to wander.

We don’t know much about Feliz’s background other than he was surrendered to the shelter with several other dogs in the household when his owner became unable to care for them for health reasons. Although we don’t think he was exposed much in his previous home, Feliz is very smart and has learned several obedience skills while in foster care. After a long walk and short training session, Feliz is typically content to lounge around the house for the rest of the day. If he is not given enough stimulation and exercise, however, he will occasionally chew inappropriate items (hide the TV remote!).

While on walks, Feliz has strong leash reactivity towards people, bikes, other dogs etc. For this reason, he would do better in a quiet or rural environment without as many distractions or will need an experienced dog owner who is willing to work with him to overcome this.
