Fawn German Shepherd Dog & Collie Mix Chicago, IL

Fawn is a very special, calm and sweet, two-year-old, 50-pound, female Shepherd/Collie-mix looking for a loving guardian.

Fawn is wonderful with people and lovely with other dogs. She is a very gentle, sensitive soul who was relinquished to a high-kill Kentucky shelter when her family saw her losing weight and they couldn’t care for her.

Luckily the emaciated 30-pound dog came to Chicago’s Pals Place Rescue. Samantha, the rescue’s founder, fed her six cups of food a day and still she was wasting away.

She asked her vet to test her for EPI. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is the inability to produce sufficient pancreatic enzymes to digest fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. This difficulty in digestion leads to poor absorption of nutrients which commonly causes weight loss despite a normal or increased appetite. Now that she’s on the proper supplements, she’s gained 20 pounds! But, she’ll have to be on the nutritional supplements for the rest of her life.

She’s wonderful with other dogs, and we don’t know if he’s ever met a cat. Fawn is housebroken and well-mannered in the home.

She will soon be spayed. She is up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and has tested negative for heartworm. Her adoption fee of $375 benefits Pals Place Rescue Group. She is being fostered in Chicago.
