For anyone interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
Please be sure to read the dog's entire profile before applying to ensure that your family is a good fit with the dog's specific criteria for their ideal forever home.

As stated in their profile, an adoption application must be completed and approved, references will be contacted, as well as a home visit, prior to meeting available dogs.
Only those approved for adoption will be scheduled to meet the dog.

Fae is a 5 yrs young female Maltese Terrier who had her re-birthday into rescue when a commercial breeder retired her and surrendered her to our rescue
Fae weighs 9lbs as of her last vet visit.

Fae has now had her dental surgery, spay, vaccination updating and of course our full bloodwork and exam workup with our vet, while she settled into foster home life and learned how wonderful life indoors and loving humans can be.

She arrived very shy and nervous understandably, but is blossoming with TLC in her foster home. Fae would like another canine companion in her new home and someone not away for long hours, though she is doing well with 2 hour absences now in her foster family home with yummy treats to keep her occupied.

Notes from Fae's foster mom:

Fae LOVES walks 2x daily 30 minutes each, washing of her face after every meal, loves her crate and sleeps all night quietly, her mental stimulation games include treat toys for anxiety work, she enjoys other dogs, training with treats games 20 minutes x 2 daily, sun tanning on deck is her relaxation time. She is really good with our dogs and others.
IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED? Very food motivated and loves her raw meals and gets excited to see food
GOOD WITH DOGS? she enjoys following our dog around and seeing other dogs on walks. Very well adjusted to other dogs and not dominate. She needs another dog companion who is a good companion for her to help her build confidence and to have adventures with
HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO DOGS MET ON WALKS? enjoys watching other dogs and meeting other dogs without hesitation
HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO DOGS SEEN FROM THE YARD OR INSIDE THE HOME? When other dogs walk our path behind our house she runs with tail wagging and barks to let them know she's here
When strangers come into our home she barks to alert but then is fine.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO PEOPLE MET ON WALKS? She is very alert and responsive to other people as long as they don't try to pet her, she needs to come to strangers on her own terms, but loves people watching walking by her

GOOD WITH STRANGERS? PLEASE PROVIDE PEOPLE INTERACTION DETAILS. When we have visitors in our home she barks with a wagging tail, she does like children that we meet on walks and sometimes will follow others as they walk by.

Fae does not feel comfortable being picked up, she is not at all aggressive but is very timid still and will need a patient family who will gain her trust on her terms with positive reinforcement and allowing her time to feel comfortable

GUARDING ISSUES? none, she likes her face washed and brushed daily, she will share her food and treats without issues,

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S BEHAVIOR IN THE CRATE. She absolutely loves her crate..sleeps all night, travels inside without issues and needs the crate available to her at all times..its her safe place, we also NEVER disturb her and try to take her out unless she comes on her own..or we lure her out with treats.

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG DESTRUCTIVE? No

DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG SHOW SIGNS OF SEPARATION ANXIETY? Yes
PLEASE ELABORATE. When left alone she barks but working on that with working treats in her crate to keep her busy, TV on or music playing in the background which seems to be going great!! Have filmed her alone for 15 minutes and doesn't react.

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S LEASH SKILLS. BEST walker ever!!! loose leash the whole time walks right beside me at all times..impressive!!

OKAY WITH HANDLING? Yes She still gets slightly nervous when you go pick her up, but doesn't mind the washing and brushing her every morning and stays still without fear. As we walking I reach out several times to pet her to let her know she's doing great she really enjoy that now!

PERSONALITY? Fae is generally very calm and enjoys quite time in crate or on deck, she's gets very excited during meal times and is great in the car.

THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT? Being left home alone for long periodS of time but working on that seems to be going way better.

Since she has no teeth it is imperative her face is kept clean at all times due to eating wet food

FOOD AMOUNT/TYPE: Raw food "Bold by nature"-50G per meal, 3 x daily
FOODS TO AVOID AND WHY? NO hard food or treats because she has no teeth
FAVOURITE TREATS/CHEWIES THAT ARE WELL TOLERATED: liver treats, and raw food on lick mat are her best
TREATS TO AVOID AND WHY: only give her raw liver treats or raw food frozen on a lick mat or placed in other kong toys..thats all she knows and loves

SKILLS/COMMANDS? We are taking things slow as still working on fear of being picked up and anxiety of being home alone

BED TIME HABITS? after evening walks 7pm she settling in for the night with one more potty at 8-9pm and sleep during the night in her crate without any issues

OTHER HABITS/ROUTINES THAT WILL HELP THE DOG SETTLE INTO THEIR NEW HOME: music on, keeping things calm her, follows you everywhere, she does stairs on deck only with only 3 steps lawn, but in home we try to keep her on main floor for safety reasons..too many stairs going up to second floor..she doesn't even try to come upstairs when I'm there.

QUIRKS/CHALLENGES/AREAS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT: anxiety when left alone
STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON: Crate training amazing, potty perfection, walks on loose leash, coming to me for attention and to be pet ..sometimes.at her own pace.
TRANSPORTATION? Fae does really well in car, in crate only and sleeps duration of car ride..even long ones! No loud music in car, she enjoy spa music when travelling.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PERFECT ADOPTIVE HOME FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED. We think Fae will do well in a house that is has other dogs, older respectful dog savvy children if any children, and a calm home but she's does well in a home full of people as well as long as her space is respected and caution taken to ensure she is not able to escape out open doors

ANYTHING TO ADD? We have a busy house in general -big family get togethers, entertaining guests, she seems to adjust very well to others as long as her crate is available to her at all times, where she goes to sleep during busy household time.

* MANDATORY Fae requires another suitable canine friend in her forever home to help her with confidence and continuing to "learn how to dog".
*Not suitable to be left alone long hours/more than 4 hours

*Inground/ground level Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard

Fae's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $550, which has not even begun to cover her vetting and care costs while with our rescue.

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dentals and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us. This adoption fee does not at all cover all of our expenses

Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
