Meet Ethel

"Ethel is coming out of her shell. She loves to play with her siblings and is feeling out being around other dogs in the home. She will follow her brother around everywhere or at least watch where he is going and try to determine if it's safe. She will slowly approach for pets and will get in your bubble and stay in it if you're feeding her treats. She is cautious but is coming around. She's still learning people and learning to trust. She very much looks to her siblings on how to act. I believe She's going to be a spunky, sassy girl as she grows into her personality.
Ethel would do best with other dogs that can help build her confidence and show her the ropes. However, if her new family was dedicated and had the time to work on her socialization and bringing her out of her shell, she would also be okay as an only dog. Ethel is still learning how to "dog" and follows the other dog's cues. She would do well in an active or calm house."
From Ethel's foster mom ^
---------------------------------------------
I have never had a name before. I never knew what being a pet feels like. I have never known what it feels like to be part of a family. My puppyhood consisted of me, my siblings, and my mom. We were strays and that is what I was growing up as. We didn't have any humans caring for us and we definitely did not let them pet us. Our mama taught us to never trust people and to always use caution around them. That is what I believed as well. All I wanted was to stay in my little bubble...being a stray was all I had ever known.
Apparently, we had been spotted quite often in the area but we were just known as the strays. No one knew where we belonged and our mama had been hanging around for months. One day, a nice lady saw a chance to capture my siblings and I and before we knew it we were being scooped up. She tried catching our mama but she took off again. Cold weather was approaching, we were covered in fleas and ticks, and we were all matted and dirty. We needed help so the nice lady took us home, and reached out to this rescue for help after no one claimed us.
I was given the name Ethel, and I am a 15lb, 12-week-old female Great Pyrenees. When I first got into my foster home, I was TERRIFIED. Where was the wide open fields? Where was the tall grass to hide in? Why were they trying to touch me? At first, I wanted nothing to do with my new life. I liked the food they were giving me...and okay maybe it felt nice to be all clean again..but still..my mama taught me to always be cautious...so I was....until recently. My foster family has been very kind and while I cannot understand why I am starting to learn a lot of cool things. Like what toys are, that I actually do like pets, and that treats are yummy!
The other dogs in my foster home have really been helping me adjust and learn that everything is okay. I enjoy playing with my siblings and sometimes am a bit curious about playing with the bigger dogs...but have not attempted it yet. I do think another playful and outgoing dog in my new home would really help bring me out of my shell. I am not currently being fostered around cats, but think I would do fine with them. I am not being fostered around kids, but due to my shyness, it might be better if the kids are old enough to understand that sometimes I may need my space to decompress. I am still unsure of strangers and may try to back away when they try to pet me. Once I realize that you only want to give me love, I will scooch closer and melt into you. I am curious about new dogs and will run up and sniff them and maybe even show interest in playing. When they want to play though, I get nervous and run away.
I do well on car rides but am also a little nervous. As time goes on and I start to feel more settled and confident, I do believe that I may enjoy going places with my new family. I am too young for walks right now and am still unsure about the leash. Once older and more confident on the leash, I do also believe that I would enjoy walks and/or going for hikes. Long story short, if my new family is prepared to work with me and introduce me to new things...I think with time I will be happy doing whatever they are doing.
I am not interested in playing fetch right now, but have learned that I love toys! I have not had the chance to play in any water yet. I am a good mix of playful and calm. I am learning quite a bit and am still figuring out how to be a true puppy so I expect my energy levels to fluctuate a bit as I grow.
I do believe that I would do okay living in an apartment. As long as my new family was prepared to work with me on leash training. I am not yet potty or kennel trained but am working on it. When my foster family is away, I am baby gated to a certain area of the house and do well.
If you are interested in offering me forever then I hope you will apply for me at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app
Make sure it is truly forever though because I don't want to be an "until" dog. If you adopt me, I want you to be it for me. Don't make me have to be passed around a few months or years down the road.....
Once this app comes in, it will be sent to my foster family. This is to help ensure that not only am I a good fit for you but that you are also a good fit for me! ?
I am currently residing in Oklahoma City, OK. If you have fallen in love with me and are out of state, how about a road trip? I won't go on a long transport, so the only way I am relocating to another state...is if we are in that car together ?
My adoption fee is $300.
That will include two sets of puppy shots and wormings. I will also have had a bordetella. I will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
