Ember's Story

My name is Ember and I'm looking for my forever home. I'm a healthy, happy and active young girl - just 1 year old - currently being fostered in western Michigan. I may be little, at just 13 lbs, but I'm pretty fierce! I'm still very much an impulsive puppy. My ideal forever home should be prepared to work with me on training so I can grow up to be a well-behaved adult (yeah, my foster mom told me to say that). I'm a sweet girl - I promise. I love people and enjoy snuggling with them. My favorite thing is when I get tummy rubs and treats. Sometimes I get jealous if I'm not getting ALL of the attention. I get so excited when my foster family comes home after being away that I can't help myself - I jump all over them! I'm good with older children and adults, but not so great with young kids. I bark at them and may try to jump on them. I'm also not always well-behaved with the other dogs in my foster home. I sometimes pick on older and smaller dogs and try to keep them away from toys and treats and my favorite spaces. Foster mom calls that "resource guarding" and says that it's a bad habit that some good training should help address. But my forever home should not have small kids or other pets. I love treats and am highly food motivated. Like many Shibas, I also have a high prey drive, so I'll need a securely fenced yard, cause I'd love to chase all of the little critters! But you'll also need to watch me carefully because like many Shibas, I'm also a clever escape artist and and can sneak out open doors and jump over gates and fences that are only 4 feet high. My ideal forever home would be with an experienced dog owner, especially one that knows how to prevent escapes and is committed to training. I am spayed and up to date on my vaccinations. If you live in the midwest and are interested in a sweet and spunky little girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to download the application to become approved to adopt. Applying helps SIRA get to know you so they can match you with available dogs like me who will thrive in your care. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
