Elvis is a special little JRT cross who has worked hard to overcome a physical disability and is now ready for his forever home!

Three years old and 16 lbs., Elvis presented to JRTRO with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). Young and otherwise healthy, he was a good candidate for therapy and his prognosis was good. While it has been an intensive process he has come through like a little champ.

His therapist reports that with a few preventative measures in his daily routines (such as taking diligent precaution against jumping on or off furniture to the floor, or rough play with other dogs, and restraints against vertical jumping/bouncing) he should be able to lead a fairly normal life. As long as he does not sustain another back injury, and as long as his new owners are careful to prevent that from happening, he shouldn’t need any additional vet care beyond the routine procedures.

He is now off all meds completely, is not showing any signs of being in pain, or even uncomfortable. He is just the happiest, sweetest little guy, just loves everyone.

While not mandatory, it would be beneficial for Elvis to continue therapy for a little longer, the cost of which would be covered by JRTRO. His current therapist would be happy to discuss treatment with his adopters and to send all his records to another therapist.

Elvis enjoys other dogs but would best suit as either an only dog in the home getting all the attention or having a sedentary dog as a companion who won’t encourage him to over-play (he is not tested with cats in his foster home.) He loves walks, but for the time being, ONLY leash walks. This may change as he continues to improve but could also be a constant throughout his life.

He will quickly bond with his person/people and preference will be given to a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time. He doesn’t display separation anxiety per se, but definitely prefers someone be with him, and will bark initially when left, but does settle down. A single person or couple that works from home or a retired adopter(s) would suit best.

Elvis loves to cuddle and is very happy spending the entire evening snuggled in beside his human (he must be lifted up and down from chair/couch). Elvis loves to sit out on the deck with his people and bask in the sun.

House-trained, crate-trained, vaccinated and microchipped, Elvis is described by his foster family as “An absolute sweetie who greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and excited look on his face” and he is going to bring so much joy to his forever home.

ELVIS is being lovingly fostered in COLBORNE, ONTARIO and his adoption fee has been reduced to $200.

Please note that JRTRO does not adopt out to homes with resident children under the age of eight years or to homes with other dogs that have not been spayed/neutered.
