You must be 25 yrs of age or older to adopt through us. We are in the Rochester NY area and adopt dogs out to area residents.

Elmo is (we are told) a Doxie Bully mix with a touch of Schnauzer who is 2 yrs old. We don't see the schnauzer in him but his short legs, long body and wide chest match the first two. He is only 31 lbs and looks larger than he is in photos. They also do not show how adorable he really is.
Elmo is a great boy, house trained, does well with the cat and dogs in his foster home, loves to run and play but also cuddle. He tends to bounce when running which is very entertaining to watch. He is a contradiction in one way, at his foster home he is relaxed, easy going, accepting of almost anything, can even take a bone out of his mouth. No aggression.... until a stranger comes into home. He does not like strangers and cannot be trusted with new people in home. He was surrendered as he did bite a visitor who just walked into his prior home. This is being worked on and he seems to be fine given a few minutes to accept new person but must be contained (leash/crate/etc.) when someone new comes into a home and carefully monitored while they are there. He is amazing and almost perfect except his fear of strangers. For this reason a quieter home (not a lot of people coming and going) is the type of home he needs. Ideally you would have another dog for him to play with. He also needs a physically fenced in yard to safely run and play in.

All our dogs have been spayed/neutered; treated for worms; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 mths or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchip; and examined by veterinarian and given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed.
