Elmer's Story
Meet Elmer – The Happy-Go-Lucky Heartthrob

Around a year old and full of youthful charm, Elmer is the definition of a sweetheart. Everyone who’s met him has fallen in love with his gentle nature and joyful energy — he’s the kind of dog who makes it impossible not to smile when you’re around him.

Elmer loves his time in the yard, especially when there’s a ball involved! His playful leaps and lightning-fast runs are equal parts athletic and adorable — he’s got energy to spare and plenty of love to give. Despite his age, he’s impressively well-mannered: not jumpy, not mouthy, and always eager to please his people.

We’re still getting to know Elmer and helping him navigate the excitement of being around other dogs. He’s shown a bit of reactivity on leash or in his kennel, but it may be more enthusiasm than anything else — when he sees dogs out in the yard, he tends to stay calm and curious. With continued guidance and positive introductions, we think he could do well with another canine companion in the future.

Elmer is young, bright, and full of potential. He’s ready to keep learning, keep loving, and keep making his people smile every single day.

If you’re looking for a best friend who will greet life with enthusiasm and affection, Elmer is waiting to meet you.

Apply to meet him at friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs

If you would like to meet Elmer, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Elmer's adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth.
Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
